Sorry, but what's it for? If it's supposed to inform, I learned nothing from it. If it's supposed to entertain, well .... it doesn't. The level of banter and humour are about at the level of Brian Carthy meets Dinny Byrne.

To be honest, this is not a fully-formed view because I stopped listening when you started to make fun of the Wicklow goalkeeper's name. What's that about? Whatever it is, it's the sort of borderline casually discriminatory shite that has no place in the GAA. If you think Mervyn Travers is a funny name for a GAA player, what can a young Eastern European expect from you enlightened podcasters if he turns up at your club interested in a game? And, of course you see no irony in spouting this type of xenophobia-inspired yahooism while at the same time proclaiming yourselves as "Squareballz with a (good ol' American) 'ZEE' ".

Ouch. That's harsh Hardy. I wasn't that impressed with this effort, it seemed to slip back into the early episodes of a couple of lads sneering, rather than being interesting. As I said before, it's all about balance. Some of the more recent efforts were very enjoyable up until this week.

Peaks and troughs lads, I suppose.

Hardy

This is the only one I've (partlly) listened to. Maybe it's harsh, but that sort of casual sneering at lads because they have a name that doesn't fit gets my hackles up. It may seem harmless, but calling people "niggers" used to be acceptable one time too.

It's obviously a pet hate of yours, and I agree that the banter this week wasn't very good, but in fairness it has been getting better over the past few weeks until then. Have a listen to some of the more recent episodes, especially the interview with Eoin Murphy of Waterford. Much better stuff. A bit of humour, but not the schoolboy stuff, and with some serious content too.

Is your real name Jonathan Syngington-Smythe by any chance? :D

Hardy

I should say, to be honest, that my hackles were up from the first "ZEE". I think I was determined not to like it from there on.

(You know my real name and so you know that's not the reason for my dislike of this stuff. My name echoes with honour in the halls of GAA distinction  :D).

I know your real name alright, and more earthy and honourable it couldn't be :D

Seriously, have a listen to some of the other episodes, it's better than you think. Give the 'zee' stuff a pass. (Don't listen to the episode immediately preceeding though, 11 I think, the 'producer' speaks and it sounds like he's shouting down a steel tube. He obviously wants in on the act :D

Thought it was alright. It's obviously meant to be a fairly light-hearted look at the GAA rather a rigerous dry analysis of all the games. There are plenty of podcasts out there in this ilk for other sports albeit most of them would be a bit more polished.

Although I'm not sure how one of them reckoned Kildare should have beaten us in 1998? ;D
