. NO 10 was the best Galway man on view

That was Damien Dunleavy. He was on the AI winning U-21 team of 2005 with Meehan and Armstrong but has had his injury troubles since then.

Thanks for that .Out of interest how many of the 2 u21 winning teams were involved today ?. I assume Joyce and Declan Meehan are the only ones who were not ?.

Poor performance by our lads yesterday. Kerry outclassed us all over the field.
Dara O Se dominated midfield which meant the backs were under severe pressure all day.
Marc O Se had Meehan in his pocket all day.Mikey could win the ball but never work a yard of space to get his shot off.
Yesterday just proved that we don't have enough scoring forwards. Meehan and PJ were tightly marked yet nobody else stood up to the plate. Breathnach is not a corner forward and never will be. He could do a good job as a wing forward with his pace but there's no point playing him in the corner as he is not going to get you many scores. At least Armstrong or Nicky Joyce have the potential to get scores on the board from the corner - Fiachra doesn't.
He was left on almost for the whole game which I couldn't believe as he did nothing at all after scoring an early point. Meehan is the only one of the full forward line to consistently threaten the opposition. Clancy is a fine player but more suited to a deeper lying role.
We won't do damage in the championship with only 1 threat in the inside forward line. we need to find some scorimg forwards and quick. Armstrong needs to sort his hamstring injury out once and for all as well.

P.S. Joyce, Deccie Meehan and Paul Doherty are the 3 players who weren't involved in the u-21 AI wins. Doherty certainly didn't start anyway in 2005 but may have been involved with the panel I'm not 100% sure.

Breathnach, as I've said here ad nauseum, is not good enough at this level. Neither is Matt Clancy, when he has to take the step up as we've seen yesterday. Nor is Cormac Bane, but I think Sammon realises this to a certain extent. Blake is probably a better option now at number 6. Paul Conroy and Dunleavy, injuries permitting, should now be pencilled in for starting places come c'ship. Can't see us beating Mayo come July, not that it matters too much, as the quarter-finals are now the new Provincial finals. Equally, debating the current Galway line-up is pretty academic, we're not going to win an AI for at least 5 years - minimum - and no team will come near Kerry this year, they'd bate the pick of Connacht at the moment I'd say.

I knew we would get cleaned in mid-field yesterday and took the right decision and went to Limerick to watch the hurlers. Look on the bright side mouview, if Galway ever get playing for 70 mins like they did in the first half against Cork yesterday, then they would bate the pick of Munster...!
Meehan was dissapointing, I only saw the highlights but he will be embarrassed about falling over in front of goals.
It was men against boys there from what I saw and heard.. A harsh lesson for the lads but they should be all the better for it. The realise now how far they have to travel while still having a good league.

Jaysus mouview we might as well pack it up so and stay at home. ;D

Certainly we are a fair bit behind Kerry but then again so is everyone else. Doesn't mean we should just raise the white flag though and Mayo are certainly not Kerry so it's a bit early to be writing off Connacht or progressing even further than that.

Agreed GBB! Yesterday only rubber stamped what all Galway posters have been saying on here during the present league campaign.  We are now good enough to compete with most of the top tier counties in the country but as per everyone else, we are a long way off matching the present Kerry team/squad. Only complacency or getting caught cold in a qtr final will stop Kerry doing the 3 in a row IMO.
