Recovery Home for Drug Addicts & Alcoholics

I got a petition through the door at the weekend. Apparently there is a house in my area which is being used as a recovery home for drug addicts, alcoholics etc. It's being run by the Elim Pentecostal Church.

I don't mind as my kids are pretty well grown up, and these places have to be somewhere. But it sounds like my neighbours who are behind the petition have a different view.

Personally wouldn't care as long as place was run well. However what really annoys me in situations like this is the ape like anger of some people in protesting/ organizing petitions etc. Especially the ones who never did/do anything to help their community in the past (the type for example who drop their kids off to football training/games and who then go off for a coffee and come back later to collect the kids).

Guarantee you that they will be the most vocal.

NIMBY - very common syndrome, but one for which there isnt a solution to suit everyone. Someone has to put up with it...

You're choice of words is interesting 'apparently'.

To me that says they aren't causing any problems in the area, as you are unaware of them and of anyone complaining about them, other than the petition through the door. Sounds like it's a very well run place, as them being in the area hasn't infriged on your daily life. They're always going to be complains from people who don't like the idea of them being there, which may go someway to explain the petition.

I know where orior lives and some of the lovelies up there would be beside themselves over this, a lot of money on the street!

I wouldn't mind if it was secure like a place people signed into and were kept inside but with 2 small kids I would be concerned if it were a place where addicts were wandering around.

I wouldn't care. Would be an improvement on some of my neighbours anyway.
