Higgins returns to Laois panel

2003 Laois All Star corner back Joe Higgins has returned to Liam Kearns Laois panel. Higgins trained with his Laois team mates on Tuesday night after accepting an offer from the Laois management to return to the set up.

Higgins, an All Ireland minor winner in 1997 had decided to retire from inter county football after last years defeat to Derry in the qualifiers and his availability will be a huge boost to Liam Kearns charges as they aim to end Dublins stranglehold on Leinster.

One of the papers today said Kearns totally ruled out Kelly returning, and it was even hinted he is considering packing the football in at all levels.
Great to see Higgins back, co-incided with The RLL's comeback to the board for effect.

Why did Kearns rule out Kelly returning ? And why did Kelly leave in the first instance ?

Good to see him back.

Former Allstar Joe Higgins has made a dramatic return to the Laois senior football panel. Manager Liam Kearns confirmed that Higgins rejoined the squad for training but will not figure against All-Ireland champions Kerry.

Along with fellow 2003 Allstar recipient Tom Kelly, Higgins announced his retirement from the intercounty game over the Christmas period but the 29-year-old has remained in good shape by training and playing matches with his club.

Kearns said: "Joe's return is badly-needed because we're lacking a bit of experience and it's great to have him back. We were working on him for a while but he missed it himself and decided to come back. "

Laois are rock bottom of Division 1 and in serious danger of relegation with just one point from four matches.

Meanwhile, Kearns is planning for the visit of his native county Kerry without the services of hamstrung Ross Munnelly and Brian 'Bruno' McCormack, who is on a family holiday in Shanghai. Michael Tierney remains a doubt but Kearns revealed that Noel Garvan has returned to light training after undergoing surgery to remove a growth from his ankle last February.

God be with the days when a week in Wexford was good enough.
If you were any use you'd be playing.
