Yes, yes I know it's a bit early for a St. Paddy's Day thread and this may be old news to some but I just heard myself that this year the feast day will take place on March 15 to avoid it coinciding with Holy Week. Just thought I'd make a thread in case any of the rest of ye missed this.

Ah f**k, thats a Saturday, that would have been a Monday off, the Church can go f**k themselves. Since when has St. Patricks Day been anything to do with religion anyway.

Its purely for the mass though, as far as I know the parades and the holiday go ahead on 17th as usual.

But which day do people get hammered on? Or is it the perfect excuse to do both?

Mmm that's a tough one. I think too many people are trying to take the Saint out of St Patrick's Day but on the other hand we must remember that there is a big cultural element to the Day as well. To be honest I'd strongly recommend that to be on the safe side people get hammered on both days. Indeed there are some who suggest that and Lenten fast can be set aside on a Sunday so for those people a potential 3 day bender lies in store.

Is this only happening in RoI? What's happening in the north and New York?

Bringing this back up now - trying to sort out the diary for the annual sesh - with the England/Ireland rugby match on the 15th, is the consensus that the Sat is the big day?

As unholy as that is.
