Waste of money - this attitude of , 'sure we have the money, we have to use it' is typical of the short sighted approach to strategic planning that Prenty and his ilk has plauged all Gaels west of the Shannon with for years.

There are plenty of clubs struggling for funds that could put this money to better use.

That's not confined to west of the Shannon.

I'm sure you're right Tayto - just felt it was not my place to comment on what the rest get up to within their own provinces/counties

white elephant is right.

who the fcuk is going to use a Connacht Cente of excellence? In Ballyhaunis?? Very few teams are going to want to travel there to use it.

Without wanting to poo poo the whole project I have to agree. I can't see many Galway teams heading up to Ballyhaunis for a night's training. Essentially this will be a Mayo centre and you might get a few teams from Roscommon as the north of the county is fairly close.

The idea of it being a centre for the entire province is a bit fanciful IMO but I'm sure it's a great facility.

This won't even be a Mayo centre. 85 miles of crap road from Belmullet, 70 miles from Achill and its at least 45 mins from Ballina's set-up so why would they bother?

It would only be used to train teams with no pitches. Unless of course there is a top notch Gym and some serious rehab or medical facilities I am finding it hard to see the point of it. Maybe they watched 'Field of Dreams' recently.

If you build it John.....

teams will then be charged by the Connacht GAA to use the facility    :o

so what is the point?

why not build 5 giant indoor arenas in each county that could be used for indoor gaelic and hurling games for kids during the winter?

could also be used to train adult teams.

and run a few auld dances to keep Scor happy

I wonder will Prenty allow a few hurling walls to be built at the centre of excellence???

good one

neilthemac

this white elephant of a centre must be stopped

if there is funding from the gaa for useful projects then instead it will be wasted on this proposed 'centre excellence'

Barney

Certainly I can see benefits of such a centre from a Mayo point of view especially where is money is going to be ploughed into McHale Park over the next few years.

But these infrastructural projects in the GAA, be it building high capacity grounds, or massive training centres are lunacy.
