The voice of reason speaks quietly, as Lynchboy did above. As Pints myself and other have discovered to our frustration, it will never be loud enough to penetrate the din going on in GNevins head. To him everything is muddled and incomprehensible, so he is continually responding to statements he imagined he heard. A happy peaceful and occasionally contentious new year to you all, as we watch our Country slip further down the tubes. See Dublin C of I bishops new year statement

Your evidence that the country is going "down the tubes" is the road being built near Tara and the demands of a few in Dingle for their children not to be taught through the medium of Irish. Presumably you can reference a time when national monuments were left untouched and people revelled in being taught in the mother tongue. When we have that period of (pre?)history, we can then have a serious discussion about the values of that time against the values of today. Okay?

You are of course totally correct Deisach, such an age never existed. There was total indifference and neglect during our long period as a colonised nation. Following 1922 as a young nation there was more pressing problems to attend too. But now that we have come of age and into our prosperity, there can be no excuse for our continued neglect and indifference, which if anything is becoming worse. That was the point i was making.

Er, so in one breath you say we are a philistine nation, then in another you say we are coming of age? When you said that we "continue our decline from nation status to corporate status", were we not meant to think there was a time when things were better? God knows how that can come across as muddled and incomprehensible.
