WPS = Works Text Document . Some versions of Word will open some versions of these Works files; for others a converter may be needed. One is available as the file WP6RTF.EXE from Microsoft
XLR = Works Spreadsheet or Chart , should open with word and excel, try renaming as *.xls

wps documents:

Text document created with Microsoft Works Word Processor; similar to Microsoft Word (.DOC) document, but does not include advanced formatting options and macros that a Word document may contain; can be opened with most versions of Microsoft Word (included with Microsoft Office).

The Macintosh version of Microsoft Works was discontinued after version 4.0; the WPS format itself was discontinued by Microsoft in 2006 and replaced by the standard MS Word DOC format.

xlr documents:

Spreadsheet or chart created with Microsoft Works; stores data in cells that are organized in rows and columns; spreadsheets created with Works 8 can also be read by Microsoft Excel.

Works is the entry-level productivity suite developed by Microsoft; it contains similar programs to Microsoft Office, but with limited features.

is your folder view setup to show you the file extensions, ie 'name.xls' instead of just 'name'?

An Fear Rua

save the files to your desktop, then right click, open with, and use choose program option to select word for the wps file, and excel for the xlr file

If they are not confidential you can email them to me on cdigby@ipic.cat and I will take a look at them. I am an IT Specialist so I have some tools here might help but no promises.
