What is it with women on this thread? Did yer mammy's and daddy's sort all your MOT, tax and insurance out for youse before you got big?!

maggie

Seeing as it was a MALE driver who drove into me and the police said he was in the wrong. I fail to see how I am reponsible for causing the insurance premiums to raise OG. And no, I didn't complain about equal insurance prices, I'm all for equality. As I only got my full licence 5yrs ago, I thought it lasted for another 5 years and until. I did manage to sort my insurance when I got my car all by myself. Some people on this board really need to get off their high horse.

Rant of the day?

Maggie, if you get hit from behind the other guy is to blame. His insurance must pay up. Your licence is irrelevant in this case.

And down here?

Every Garda Station should have the required forms, you don't even have to ask.

Maggie, never mind the high horse brigade, anyone can make an innocent mistake on things like Passports and Driving Licenses.

Not until there are less women drivers. It's safer up here.

My tax was due up at the end of April - can I still take all the forms into the Post Office or would I have to go to one the DVA centres to get it re-taxed?

Mine was up at the end of April as well - I renewed on Tuesday (3rd May) in the post office without a problem (apart from having to pay the extra tax from the last budget)

You have two weeks either side of the expiry date to renew at a PO
I like to see the fairways more narrow, then everyone would have to play from the rough, not just me

Just realised I spelt licence wrong. Apologies to the HHB, particularly  Puck, their spiritual leader.

What's the story concerning NI Driving License and penalty points? Points expire next month. Do I need to pay to get the points off? Or can I kill two birds when renewing license in a few months?

David McKeown

Depends

The points count for three years from date of offence however they remain on your licence for slightly longer. If you got the points without going to court they stay on your licence for 4 years (although as I say they won't count for the last year). If however you got the points imposed by a court they stay on for 5 years.

Either way they automatically come off after that point so you just request and pay for a duplicate and return your licence with the points on.

No court involved. Lasts 4 years.

Is there a problem with continuing to use the license with the points on? License expires in a few months anyway, so just thought I could wait and get a renewal/points removed at the same time?

I wouldn't please the backstards to give them two fees within a short space of time, if I can help it.

David McKeown

Nope no issue at all you can use away till it expires then get a renewal.

If you want a clean one sooner you've two options.  As far as i can remember you can apply for a duplicate which used to be about £20 as soon as points come off if you want and you'll get a clean licence back but it will still expire whenever the current one expires or you can apply for an optional renewal which will give you a licence for ten years from date of application that will also be clean.  That though costs a bit more than a duplicate (used to be about £45) and means you lose however long is left on your current licence i.e. you get 10 years from application not 10 years for expiration of current licence.
