I couldn't agree more with your thoughts.
But the issue haven't changed.

But the word is even with all year management teams fallings and lack of even having a clue ,laois intend to give them the role for another term .

How can these sort of thing happen ??

Blueforever

Reply to Hurling 123. Because the people at the top of Gaa in Laois are absolutely useless and all they care about is their own clubs and they have as much vision as a dead goldfish

Another humbling defeat today our minor footballers

Butch Cassidy

Goals killed them. Same as the u20s and seniors, we've an awful habit of conceding goals.

Anyone have the squad details of the underage teams? Would love to know players and clubs who are representing from u14 up

Everybody on County board should get a copy of Saturday's Irish Independent and read the interview with Michael Duignan the just might learn something

Just 3 counties have won every "A" level trophy (championship and league) at every age group (senior, u21/u20, minor) in hurling and football.

Cork,
Galway,
Offaly.

A smaller county than Us,with a past and a future that Laois couldn't even countenance

You have to admire what Offaly have done. What is wrong with us? Is it all down to our county board?

Partly a mindset. We've always been losers, we always will be. Offaly know what it's like to win all-Irelands, they can remember it, and they want it again - and they know what it takes.

Your post here reflects your defeatist  mindset; "We've always been losers, we always will be".

If that attitude prevails, then its not the County Board we need to question, but the attitude of every GAA person in the county.

The reality is there isn't enough people in Laois who are willing to put in the huge amount of hard work that's needed to shift the dial

Offaly have those in abundance for a county of their size plus a culture of winning All Irelands across every grade

The importance of the combined schools teams was referenced by at least 2 Offaly commentators yesterday and it's just one of many examples where Laois is so far behind

Laois only put in a combined schools hurling team for the first time this academic year and it was a thrown together outfit with little in the way of training done

The Laois combined schools football team despite 6 months notice conceded their games because they couldn't get mentors and team together at the last minute

Offaly by comparison have these teams up and running 5/6 years, have minor and u20 county management embedded in them and understand the value they bring to the overall setup

See the Celtic challenge team won division 3.

I am not looking to take from their achievement. I was told that laois had never won a division 3 title. So a win is great

.but as previously said should laois not be trying to play at a higher level ??

Laois had tried to play a current laois minor in the final in breach of the rules

They had already played a minor in the Semi Final win

You'd wonder did they not bother to learn the eligibility rules for the Celtic Challenge or did they think they could pull a fast one

on the hop

I attended the game as I live not that far away and knew a person involved with mayo. I have never seen this group before and in fairness they got a lovely pitch in abbotstown to play on and it was contested like a final. The final wasn't bad and again i am only going on seeing this level only but there were a lot of very good scores. Mayo probably will feel they could have won it. Certainly in the first half when they had the benefit of the wind they caused Laois a lot of problems, the two man inside forward line scored I think 2-6 from play in the game were very dangerous. The full forward got man of the match afterwards in fairness he got four great points from play. In the second half Laois really squeezed the puckouts and won a lot of turnover ball around the middle and just got over the line. No- one really jumped out but they got the win in the end which will hopefully stand to them in the future.

As this is seen as a development tournament I don't really know the eligibility grounds for teams but I did know that Mayo had players from 15 to 17 years old on board and they had come through their group beating a Westmeath, Sligo, Donegal, Kerry and Roscommon to reach the final. From the programme Laois lost to Meath, beat Armagh and a Kildare team as they had two in the competition in the group stages. They beat Kildare again in the quarter finals, again possibly another Kildare side before Meath in the semi final. The tournament which had nine groups effectively was two sets of four groups with the losers in each group going into other cups etc. 1-4 seemed to be stronger teams and 4-8 the smaller counties and then one large group for the weaker counties. Looking at the groups they worked out as follows,

Division 1 - Clare, Limerick, Galway, West Cork
Division 2 - Tipperary Blue, Antrim, East Cork, Kilkenny Black
Division 3 - Down, Cork City, Wexford, Tipperary Gold
Division 4- Dublin, Derry, North Cork, Waterford

the second batch of four counties

Division 5 - Mayo, Westmeath, Sligo, Donegal
Division 6 - Carlow, Kerry, Roscommon, Wicklow
Division 7 - Tyrone, Offaly, Kildare Lilywhites
Division 8 - Kildare, Armagh, Meath and Laois

Division 9 - Monaghan, Leitrim, Longford, Fermanagh, Louth, Cavan

The finals ended up

Tipperary Blue v Kilkenny Black
East Cork v Dublin
Mayo v Laois
Tyrone v Sligo
Louth v Monaghan
Leitrim v Fermanagh

i don't know what level this group are at or have been at through their development but it would appear that they are at probably the third level of teams at present. someone else here might have better knowledge on the matter.

I've a friend involved with Kilkenny who only put in one team altogether

They played Tipperary Blie who beat Tipperary Gold in tbe semifinal

It was a game they paid close attention so that the rules were adhered to

If you played Minor Championship Huring this year, you were ineligible for the Celtic Challenge

It's an excellent competition for the weaker counties but also aids the development of lads in the stronger counties who are just not up to minor intercounty standard yet
