QuoteDJ Carey is quite a good player. He is not, was not, the greatest hurler of all time nor even of the decade he inhabited.

oh yeah. Jaysis, how could I forget his DJ-bashing.

I could be wrong BW but I seem to recall he went too far in one article DJ related that got him into hot water. I could be wrong on that though. He couldn't abide DJ.
Yep, he had a dislike of Carey and in one article basically called him a money grabber and vainglorious.
Carey took the legal route and the Indo had to cough up something like £115,000.

Carey's biggest crime was to be compared to Christy Ring and we all know how precious Cork folk are about their sports stars!  :D

I wonder how that libel case would look if taken today given the hammering DJs reputation has taken, the Carey name is not what it used to be.

Maybe Kevin knew more back then that a lot of us!

Cashman was never Galway hurling's biggest fan either.

Was there a case where a Cork 'reader' wrote a letter into the Sindo, criticising something or other? Turns out the editor at the time, Aengus Fanning, contacted the PO in Cork which confirmed that the person didn't exist at the postal address included with the letter. Strangely, sometime afterwards, Cashman moved from the Tribune to the Sindo.

Cyril Farrell fan

Cashman's hatred of Galway was unreal.
Pity he was gone when Cork brought soloing and handpassing to a new level. I wonder how he would have dealt with that?
