"I got letters sent to the house and messages sent to me on the phone. It was pretty dire stuff for people to write down. To actually think that someone could sit down and write that kind of stuff on a letter and send it across anonymously as well. They didn't even sign it off which was the annoying thing."

Something to bear in mind when penning an abusive letter or death threat. Remember to sign your name, so as not to irritate the recipient.

Great article by Jimmy, and Sky's analysts are miles ahead of RTE's.

If you were any use you'd be playing.

Just wondering how do you Dubs on here feel about Dublin's chances this year of retaining Sam?
Do you think Kerry and Donegal are spent forces with ageing players and they are struggling to match you in nearly every department or will they have one last sting in the tale?

Will it finally be the year that Mayo kick on and learn from last year where they got so close. Will they use the O'Sheas and O'Connors to better effect and try to exploit the perceived weakness in your full back line this year.

Brian McGuigan and Tomás O'Shea talked last weekend about how hard it is to maintain that hunger to win and how you think you are doing enough but you can't be sure until the really big games which probably won't come until the semi final.

I don't think Tyrone are at a level just yet to challenge Dublin but maybe if they can improve this year by winning Ulster that will help. I think if a team can stop Dublin scoring goals they have a good chance but often Dublin bring on the cavalry in that last 15 mins that give them the edge to push over the line.

That's a great read. An insight into his Genius.

I get the impression from that that he'd love to be back in mgmt. If MH were to call it a day in a couple of years, would he go to Tyrone?

Fuzzman

I really couldn't see it as he is a very proud Donegal man and he is adored for what he has done for the county so it would be a huge let down to those fans if he came to Tyrone.

ardtole

I vaguely remember McGuiness hinting that he would like to manage mayo in the future.

What is his role in Celtic these days since Rodgers came in? I'd like to know what his long term ambitions are in relation to his own career, does he see his future in soccer or is he still interested in getting back into GAA county management.

I think I remember reading a while back that he was working to get his UEFA coaching badges, I don't know but it would suggest he is looking toward developing a career in the game.

Rossfan

Of course he'll need a day job.
The GAA is amateur after all ;)
Davy's given us a dream to cling to
We're going to bring home the SAM

Would love to see how he could transfer his skills into soccer, though it would be very difficult to convince anyone to give him a chance given his background is in a totally different field. I'd imagine he would be more than capable of managing at League of Ireland level though, the publicity it would generate for a club alone could make it worth the risk.

What about a non Ulster county, like Cork? I imagine he could do a lot with them & he has a very big playing pool to pull from, compared to Donegals. He also has a very strong personality, that would be well able of standing up to Emperor Frank, when it comes to getting what he needs to run an inter county squad.

Fuzzman

Anyone hear what they think of him in Celtic?
I wonder would he be of any value to the Rep Ireland set up

As he's obviously a masterful coach and motivator, when Jimmy talks tactics we should listen.

But after reading that article a few times, what it basically boils down to is that if you can get good quality ball into on-sing forwards, then you stand a chance of beating Dublin.

This has pretty much been the basis of every successful football team in my lifetime. That doesn't make a fullback line vulnerable. It's just football.

Maybe we all do overthink football a little too much.
