Well he did say the first few session might hurt, so I'll see....

However he couldn't believe the amount of tension I was carrying. I guess over time I just got used to it.

I've a condition in my back called Scoliosis, which means my spine is 'S' shaped. Means I've usually got some sort of back pain 24/7. However the last 3-4 it has gotten chronic and I'm bent over at times with it.

I've tried things in the pain, such as heated herb cloths, ginger, painkillers, hot water bottles, stretchings and what-not, but it is quite limited. I also went to my GP and he referred me to a physio a few years ago. All I got what suckers on my back, which sent a mild current through my muscles to relax them. Didn't do me much good either.

Does anyone else on the board have/had back pain and can you recommend anything for me?

Hey Ziggy,
I have a mild form of Scoliosis too. So my pelvis is tilted - if I was a woman I'd be called eilean. It also means I use my right leg more than my left and was the reason I have to give up road roading (I just stick to jogging now). Stangely it does not affect my golf (I guess I compensate for it), but any time I play squash I weaken my back.

My recommendation is swimming.

That's what the chiropractist said to me. Bloody pelvis is tilted. He's mostly doing muscles work, but he gets some sort of hammer to whack it. He did hug me once and I heard cracking.

Tried swimming. Took lessons for over a year, still can't swim!  :'(

Ziggy - have you tried a kinesiologist? My sister was plagued with a bad back and reckons the kinesiologist brought her great relief.A lot of herbal tinctures and some mild manipulation involved, she now suffers nowhere near the pain she did.

Hey Ziggy,

There is a bloke in Moira who uses the Bionic Hand.  Basically it manipulates the spine back into its correct position over a series of sessions.

Here is an article on it:

I heard about it through my MMA coach who was suffering from Sciatica at the time, he was sorted after a couple of sessions.

Might be worthwhile having a look at it!  :)

Back pain in all its forms is a fecker if ever there was one.  I first started getting problem when I was 15, with bad scyatica.  At times it was so painful I had to lie on the carpet rather on a mattress at night.  I had it on and off for years and about 10 years ago I slipped a disc.   I would never wish that on anyone.  It was hell for about two weeks until my mate (I was in Japan at the time) took me to a specialist in Chinese Acupressure, the only one of his kind in the country.  He was brilliant and had me back on my feet in no time.  I have never been bothered with sciatica since.
However, I began having terrible pain in the morning and couldn't even bend over to wash my teeth it was that bad.  Any way I put up with it, but have had a diagnosis done. Grade 2 Anterolisthesis, basically one of the vertibrae is slipping out of position on top of the one below.  I'm supposed to be going to see a specialist before Xmas - I've been waiting for a few months (so much for private health care) and am dreading what I'm going to be told.

My suggestion is to ask for a oesteopath consult and take it from there.  I have no time for chiropractors as I really doubt their credibility.

To find his equal an Irishman is forced to talk to God!

Cheers.

That Bionic Hand looks interesting. Must find out more about it.
