If it was clear, we'd at least have seen the sun itself getting covered, as opposed to a general darkness. It basically looked like a November morning for 15 minutes.

What did ye all expect? Flashing lights, brass bands, shooting stars???
Tony's voice shouting " REPENT" ?

Indeed. At the peak of the eclipse it was like dusk - about half an hour before darkness. And the birds started up with their second dawn chorus of the day. It was cloudy here, but that was a bonus. At times you could see the eclipse through thin cloud, which acted as a filter so that you could look directly at it. Unfortunately my photographic skills weren't up to capturing this, but here's Cork Harbour at peak eclipse.

The clouds have cleared now in Donabate, after the whole thing is over.

Have now officialy given up on "eclipses", comets, space stations, starbursts etc . Don't care anymore.................. overrated .

It was visible here, but you'd need the special glasses which a work colleague had and another had the glass from a welders mask and was taking reasonably decent pics of it.

The clouds broke for around a 1 or 2 over Omagh. Looked very impressive. Took a few pictures, but alas, could see very little. Might try and 'treat' it a bit, to bring the eclipse forward.

One of my coleagues rigged up a pinhole camera. Even though there were thin clouds, we could clearly see the moon move across our big star.

Is it safe to stare directly at the sun again now?

It was shite. Time they were done away with.

Dont worry - it will happen. Every year the Moon drifts away about an inch from the Earth.

But sure Mayo will have won the All Ireland before that makes any difference!
