Should Ireland re-join the Commonwealth?

I really don't know how joining the Commonwealth progresses us to an united Ireland.

It reassures northern protestants that they won't be uniting with a bitter and twisted shower of self-pitying Brit haters.

Yes, they wouldn't be used to bitter and self pitying people.

I don't think the 26 counties should join the Commonwealth, we don't need any more partitioned sports teams and unionists would just come back looking for more. But if the idea emerged when a UI was mooted, it would be they type of thing that should be on the table and I expect it will, if the Commonwealth lasts that long.

That would be the Commonwealth Games, would it not.
I don't want to see two Irish teams in this, there is enough division.

Why would there be? Surely it'd be a 32 county Ireland team as part of the deal.

Very little if the truth was told, but I'd envisage 'Ireland' being part of the commonwealth as a 32 county entity and not Norn Iron and the Republic as separate entities within that.

Unless its an appeasement to unionists in a step to a UI, I'd not bother.
