Are any of you, your family or partners a registered child minder within NI.

My wife has a degree in Early Years and we have been toying with the idea of her opening our house and becoming a registered minder.

I was reading up there but would like the real man's view on it.
We have a child (2) and one on the way- would that mean my wife would only be able to take on 3 other children over the age of 3?
Cost of insurance?
Modifications to house?- Ours is a new build. There would be certain area's of the house that we could restrict access during working hours and outside we have fences, a lawn and a gate.

What is the daily rate for a child under 4 (all day) and a over 4 (under 12- outside school hours)

Above might be a bit waffley.

My wife is a registered childminder we've 1 under school age and 1 over. So she's allowed 2 under n 2 after schools. After School kids harder to come by with most primary schools ding clubs sports etc.

The daily rate really depends on where you live. The OH basis it on a FT/PT need and stays cheaper than the local nursery.

Nicma membership covers the insurance but also i found abbey to be reasonable with changing the home insurance for business use and they allow up to 6 kids to be minded.

House modifications, stair gates, plug covers, blind hooks for pull chord (we changed our blinds to the pvc ones with no chord joining each blind.) all sharp edges covered, travel cot n sleeping arrangements, i put a fence up out the back to block access to oil burner n tank n also keep bins behind this as well.

Demand atm is pretty high so wife looking at getting the MIL sorted to lend her a hand so she can have 6 at any one time. Kids are great to have around the place especially for our youngest.

Not an easy career choice the kids are fine and a great laugh, dealing with the parents seems to be the worse bit, their kid maybe sick as a dog have it all over Facebook n land the nxt morning expecting their child to be cared for only to infect the rest of the rest of the kids - nightmare.

Expect the house to be constantly upside down, having my wife at home able to rare our boys is great.

One thing to add if you've an open fire you'll need a fire guard and carbon monoxide alarm. First aid kit and fire blanket.

nicma website should give you a good idea of rates for your area.

Would have these anyway whether you are minding kids for others or not.
