Folks

I'm looking to register an Irish .ie website domain but I'm told I need a Registered Business Number (RBN). Why is this and is there any way I can register a .ie domain without an RBN?

First I've heard of it. All you have to prove is that your site will have some connection to Ireland. At least that's how it was when I registered mine.

When I got my own domain a few years back, the company who was hosting my website (Alpha Design, if you are interested) handled the registration of the .ie domain. I had to write an essay on why I deserved the particular url, but they took care of everything else, including the invoicing for it.

What sort of coin we talking about here?

Costs €20 to register a business name online (www.core.ie)

Hardly extortion.

It depends what you want the .ie for as to how complex the process is. For a club or a personal website a simple headed letter detailing your ties to the name will suffice but for a business you will need to provide more.

I use letshost.ie, heres a link to a wizard on their site that will give you more idea as to whats needed for your particular case https://www.letshost.ie/irish-ie-domains/ie-domain-wizard/
