I wanna have my kicks before the whole shithouse goes up in flames.

Itchy

Apparently Tyrone had a team prior to the year 2000. One memorable hammering they got was in the 1933 Ulster final when Cavan beat them 6.13 to 1.2. According to local paper Mickey Harte missed the game as he was studying in college.

This was in the Waterford News back in the day:

QuoteShortage of space necessitated holding over until this week the full story of Waterford's hurling debacle on St. Patrick's Day.

The future if one can possess faith in such, is anything but bright for Waterford hurling. The Decies prestige and reputation slumped to unprecedented depths by the Leeside when Cork, in effortless fashion, handed out a thirty-three points trouncing to the visitors. Ironically enough, Waterford were fortunate to escape with such a deficit.

[...] While examining the pros and cons of the present position one must bear in mind that suitable inter-county material within the county is limited, and the immediate prospects appear far from rosy

The score was Cork 10-11 Waterford 1-5. The year? 1959. I wouldn't get too upset about it if I were from Armagh.
Cork gave Waterford an awful lot of hidings.
It must have felt good watching Clare beat them in the AIF.

Yeah but the point is Waterford went on to win the All Ireland that year. Get your money on Armagh!

Mayo shares a sea border with Donegal and on a clear day you can see Donegal from north Mayo coast (you cannot see Kerry  ;)  )

All winding aside, this scoreline is impressive given the fact that Tyrone had an experimental and youthful team on show against a far more established Armagh team.  Nobody is really getting ahead of themselves considering its only the McKenna Cup, but impressive all the same.
Of the team listed to play only Philly McEvoy in nets, Mark Shields, Tony Kernan, Ethan Rafferty and Jamie Clarke played last year in the championship. Granted Andy Mallon and Charlie Vernon have played regularly before but Charlie was playing completely out of position at FB and Tony Kernan likewise at CHB.
Horrible, horrible result but it wasn't an established Armagh team by any stretch of the imagination.

Philip McEvoy, Andy Mallon, Charlie Vernon, Paul Hughes, Mark Shields, Stefan Campbell,, Ciaran Rafferty, Ethan Rafferty, James Lavery, Eugene McVerry, Kyle Carragher, Tony Kernan, Robbie Tasker, Jamie Clarke, Niall McConville. Subs used: Kevin O'Rourke for E McVerry (6 mins), Brian Mallon for M McConville (34), Johnny Hanratty for T Kernan (41), Ciaran MacIomhair for K Carragher (47), Ciaran McCooey for P Hughes (49)

So off the Armagh team McEvoy, Shields, Tony Kernan, Ethan Rafferty, Jamie Clarke plus Andy Mallon, Charlie Vernon, Brian Mallon, Johnny Hanratty, Eugene McVerry, James Lavery and Stefan Campbell have all played Championship football for Armagh before?
You used the term established.  I think you're stretching it a bit to use the word established to the players that I have highlighted.  Add that to the fact that we had a midfielder playing full back and a wing forward listed at CHB.  I want to make it clear that this isn't an excuse for the result the other night but to say that it was an established Armagh team is completely untrue.

My point was simply that it was a very good win but one that I wouldn't be getting carried away with as its only a Mckenna game in January, but what gave me about of optimism about the season(s) ahead was the number of young, new faces on the Tyrone team on Wednesday night against an Armagh team that had more players with senior county experience.

Not particularly. Cork, Clare, whoever: they're all the same these days. Once we're out, I'm not too fussed. Although Clare winning the All-Ireland was great for the game in general.
