What's the best camcorder to buy below £400 all in
With stand. Want to record matches so best quality
That I can get. Will then be using iPad for analysis.

Thanks in advance.

Everyone recommends the GoPro Hero 3 (there's different versions, pick the one that's best for you), and certainly within your budget. If you want something that can moonlight doing other things the entry level Canon DSLRs (1100D, 600-700D) are very tidy video cameras but I think some of them aren't auto-focusing, which could be important depending on where you're setting up the camera.

Video Camera:

DV video camera. Look for models with AV-DV IN/OUT features.
Firewire analog to digital video convertor. These devices are used when the camera does
not support AV-DV IN/OUT. Canopus or Elgato product lines are recommended.
Firewire cables to plug in the camera or convertor to the computer. 4 to 6 pin and 6 to 6
pin for FW 400 and 4 to 8 pin for FW 800 are recommended.
Composite RCA video or s-video cables and RCA audio cables to connect the video source (VHS player or DVD player) to a convertor and to output movie presentations to a display or recording device.

This was the spec that the soft wear  called for.  Trying to explain  this to the sales people down the local camera shop was like German  for the 16 year old  assistant.

Never considered the go pro. Always had them down as something that trail bikers used.

Firewire is pretty much redundant these days MinB, having been superseded by HDMI.

So what would be the fastest way of getting footage
From the camera onto the iPad.
