Quote from: JimStynes on May 04, 2025, 11:00:32 PMEnded up doing Belfast today. Last minute job. So much easier in perfect running conditions than the heat of London last week! Probably not the best idea doing 2 marathons in 7 days but I ran much better today thankfully.

Belfast could turn that into a good marathon if they made a few tweaks. There was hardly any toilets at the start line, mile markers were missing at some points, drink stations were tiny etc. Support was brilliant though. That point at the Ormeau road is like the Tour de France with people lined both sides scream support. Really enjoyed that run today!
Couldn't believe it when I saw you had run on Strava.
Great run and time. Two Marathons in a week is some going.
Amazing the difference the heat can make to pace.

Definitely not my best idea but glad I got home safe and sound and hopefully injury free. Bit of time off now and then I'll start planning my races for the year in the build up to Chicago.
I've a child on the way next week so that's going to put the cat amongst the pigeons 😂

Yeah a few tweaks and it could be a lot better, certainly the toilet situation needs addressed, not that I needed it but they were few and far between along the route..

Need to address the relay teams, they should have a bay that they run into, away from the road, like a pit area, but as they merge into the race it needs to be on a bigger patch of road as the feckers are like antelopes dashing through the crowd..

Another one, and I'm sure they do it elsewhere is you have your estimated time and that's your zone to start in, they did in Amsterdam when I was there, cuts out the, what felt like walkers in the first mile or two of the race.

Too many narrow parts through parks also, which clogged up things and even seen some fallers, the energy sapping 18 stage hill needs to go lol!

The last thing would be to construct a viewing platform at the finish line as many people couldn't see their loved ones crossing the line at the end, as it was ten deep.

Other than that it's grand lol!

Yes the Ormeau road was like a tour de France stage! Looking back that final split on times was quick lol..

Well supported in most places, I suppose the weather made it, and if London was warmer than that then it would be sapping your energy..

Desperate stuff! Hope she's early with diagnosis and help available

No doubt the antivaxers will be having a field day with this news, totally taking away the pain her and family are going through

Yeah, it was known about down here for a week or more.

Sad news for her and hopefully she makes a full recovery irrespective of the running.

Anyone have much experience with cross country running?  I'm looking for a bit of advice on footwear for my son.  He recently joined a local running club and went to his 1st cross country at the weekend.  The weather was decent, but looking at other runners, I think he is wearing the wrong footwear.  We just had him in normal road running Asics.  I saw plenty of others in football boots and even some trainers with sharp spikes.

The surface seems to vary from grass, muck, woodland to gravel tracks.  Would trail running shoes be best to try and cover all surfaces? Surely those sharp spikes wouldnt be good on gravel.

The Salomon running shoes would fit the type you are looking for, though can be expensive depending on the shoe, spent £165 on a pair at the weekend for the daughter!

That's the last pair I'm buying lol!

Cheers, will get a look at those.  He's 13 with growth ahead no doubt, so unfortunately these wont be my last  ;D

Is he at the top end? If not, I'd stick him into football boots for now. Our oldest did a bit and was never going to be troubling the podium, so went in boots and was fine. Plenty there doing the same. If he's decent then you could look at the trail shoes. In fact there's usually a load on eBay/ marketplace with very little wear that might suit to start before forking out £100+ on a pair that might get minimal use.
Grammar: the difference between knowing your shit

No he's certainly not at the top end.  Just a beginner. Wouldnt be into the football though, so it's a purchase either way.

Anyone running Dublin next weekend?

I see they have changed to a full ballot for next year, so gone is the priority entry you'd get for running it the previous year.

They need to sort out the number of people not taking their entries. Something like 5k a time I heard. They don't allow transfers later on - need to address that.

Not doing it though know a few who are.
