A couple of weeks ago I got the Passport office to post me a few forms which I had completed and left them into the Express today in a post office near Carryduff.

They got rejected because they were old forms. Thanks Passport Office. The old form asks for two photographs, while the new one asks for four photographs.

Sufferin succotash.

Can anyone tell me what proof of ID they've sent recently for an Irish Passport?

My girlfriend sent her application off via passport express about two weeks ago. She was going to send her drivers licence along with payslip & utility bill.
The lady at the Post office advised against sending the license, so we sent a photocopy of it instead.

I've just checked the tracking online and it's said that "This application could not be processed. A letter outlining the reasons for this decision has been posted to you"
Obviously we'll know more when the letter arrives, but the license is the only thing I can think of that might not be right.

Here's where it gets worse; I sent off applications for both my folks last weekend with photocopies of their licenses too  :-[

I think you have to get the witness to sign the back of the photocopy - did you do that?

I have witnessed so many of these forms (Irish and UK) that I get mixed up in what's required for them.

The whole idea of passport express should be that the person in the post office checks that everything is there (and the form is current).
If at first you don't succeed, then goto Plan B

No, didn't get the photocopies signed, just the photos & forms. Checked the website and it says to authenticate them.

We only did this, rather than sending the actual licenses on the advise of the Post Office woman.

First of all my girlfriend went into the PO (Supervalu, Omagh) and the young lad just told her point blank 'We don't do Irish passports'
I got mine there a few years ago so knew this wasn't true. She didn't want to go back in so we went to the PO in Campsie, they said they do them but don't offer Passport Express, but confirmed Supervalu definitely do.
So back to Supervalu, got a different woman. She said they do passport express, but 'don't check them'.
Grand. She then proceeded to check everything..... told us to send a photocopy of license instead of the actual thing.

When I got my last passport this was definitely the case, but now they apparently don't check them for you

How much is it for a renewal of an Irish passport?

Ended up £77.63 sterling on in middle of May - passport fee & express service fee combined.

Holy shite! They're taking the feckin' piss! I don't think I'll bother renewing it tbh.

Any 'Mc' names out there have it spelled on their Irish passport as 'Mc Name' i.e. with a space, I never use a space, I write 'McName' - I suspect this has caused me some hassle when scanning my passport to get a boarding pass. Anyone had that experience?

Should clarify I book ticket as 'McName' so passport scan is reading 'Mc Name', which I think is flagging a problem.

7 quid a year is good value imo

Problem with gf's was the license photocopy. They returned the other stuff, birth cert etc and provided a prepaid envelope to just return the actual license to complete the process, so should be grand in another 10 days or so I assume

@tyssam5 would it not just be handier to book the flights including the space so as it matches your passport?
