Police sent a six-year-old boy one of a batch of letters aimed at encouraging known criminals to hand themselves in.

Peter Akers, of Derby, was mistakenly told by Derbyshire Police he had one last chance to "make a fresh start" before further action was taken.

Peter said: "The only thing I've done wrong recently is when I stole some sweets from my sister's room." Officers were sent to his house to apologise.
