You do realise it is the European year of the citizen. It is supposed to remind the bureaucrats in the centre in whose interest they are supposed to be working. It is the typical type of platitude they come up with while taking decisions to appease speculative markets at the detriment of the citizen. The European project which in principle I favour but it is going away from what it should be. The people aren't buying it anymore. It is starting to bear the hallmarks of the Soviet dream.

It makes you realise how unintentionally apt the European Parliament building in Strasbourg is. It was criticised thusly; "It is apparently transparent but almost impossible to navigate; there are bridges between different levels, but you cannot quite work out where they lead"
It won't be the next manager but the one after that Meath will become competitive again - MO'D 2016

the difference in the european dream and the soviet dream is that in the ussr they dreamed of working together for each other. in the european dream the germans dream of having us all work for them! i think higgans has recognised the leadership vacuum in ireland and is trying to give some little pointers as to where the gimp kenny should be heading. for his part kenny will probably ring merkle to apoligise for the rantings of an old git

Jasus there's some spelling there !!!
I presume the EU/Germans will be shaking in their boots because the 70 something would be poet who is the figurehead Head of State of a State which contains 0.9% of the EU's population has rabbitted on to some English language newspaper.
That USSR dream of yours turned out to be some nightmare seeing as they had to buid a big wall to force people to stay in it.
Meanwhile the EU may soon have to build a big wall to keep people out of it.

in that soviet 'dream' people had work and were not in danger of losing their homes. they didnt have negative equity, or many of the problems we have. what they did have is the worlds biggest power (america) pointing nuclear weapons at them and doing their uttmost to unbalance anything that was any good about the place. the soviet empire was far from perfect but what we have is a system where the rich get richer and the poor die on trollies. neither system is perfect

Master of understatement for a change  ;D
A bit like Hirohito after the Bombing of Horoshima/Nagasaki - The war has taken a decisive turn not necessarily to Japan's advantage.
