Do they not bring in most of the wood from Eastern Europe now anyway?

90% of ash trees in Denmark died as a result of the disease.

There's incidents of it in GB, not sure if it's hit here yet!

At this stage I think most Ash for hurls comes in from the continent, so I suppose if there's a huge die back there the price of hurleys will go through the roof, if they are available at all.

CĂșltec may get the auld production lines spinning.

It is/was here. Was on the news last week that they had to destroy live trees that had been imported and planted as well as imported timber.
But there were no reports of it having spread to native trees at that stage.

Would the protestant trees in the wee six not follow whatever their breathren on the mainland are doing?

Sure if there is a ban on imports or restrictions then no ash. Plus all the lads who have ash trees waiting to mature for hurley making could be fecked.

It's pretty serious alright.
About 25 years ago the same thing happened to elm trees in the country and I'm nearly certain that all living trees were killed. It was called Dutch Elm disease and was caused by a beetle. A furniture maker back then told me that it would take 100 years before there would be mature elm trees again and he also said that ash and other broad leaf species were at risk as well. All of them  were susceptible to one disease or another or some form of beetle that could decimate stocks at any time.
