Keeper in a suit picture was a wind up
21 June 2012

While the news of a goalkeeper wearing a suit during a match in Gaelic Park caused much merriment both sides of the Atlantic, New York officials have been quick to point out that was not actually the case.

While at New York GAA headquarter, Lee Johnston tweeted to his followers that 'one team had 10 players and their keeper is wearing a suit' and added a picture as proof.

However, it appears to have been a prank.

"The man in the suit photographed in the Gaelic Park goals is Sergeant Peter McCormack, a NYPD Detective who is also a New York GAA referee," explained Ira Goldman, secretary of Donegal GAA NY, to hoganstand.com

"Peter was not taking part in the game, which had not yet started.

"When photo was taken he was on way to NYPD GFC meeting which was taking place in Gaelic Park and later refereed a game that evening."

Peter is from Ballybofey and is also the manager of the NYPD GFC, with Ira his assistant.

The girl standing at the side of the goalpost is Peter's daughter Hanna.
