Do you remember when Big Jackie hosted the GAA highlights on BBC? I think Mark Robson hosted it too for a while. They were terrible, hadn't a clue! I suppose that was before the BBC hired catholics though.

It is excruciating watching Pat Kenny and Ryan tubridy interviewing GAA stars. They don't know anything abut stuff like who won the 82 football or who were Munster hurling champions in 99  . Often they get answers that any GAA aficionado could follow up with another good question but they just leave it hanging.

I've seen plenty of good GAA programmes on BBC over the years. People shouldn't get so easily offended. I have video recording of Jackie presenting the chamionship in 1993 with Liam Austin as the analyst. I thought he was better than Jerome Quinn which wouldn't be hard. Liam Austin was a very good analyst and would like to see him back.

Orior

At the 70's.

I remember Lurgan Clan Na Gael beating the Johnnies. And of course the Kernan/Moriarity. And Rory McIlroy's uncle broke into the Armagh minor team.

No it didn't but from what I hear Reeling back the Years don't go back as far as 1951 either!

Guess in the 70's the Beeb was too busy filming the Orange parades. Prob took a while before they realized there were better games to be seen than soccer. Either that or more R.C. staff at the top came to the B.B.C. and said hold on a minute!

Dougal Maguire

My main gripe is that they should have shown more of the female wrestling. That blonde bird looked a bit of all right
Careful now

JUst retired

I remember in 1977 the BBC invited the Armagh squad down to Belfast studios to watch a re-run of one of their games,I cant remember if it was the ulster final win or the drawn Rosommon game.
The head of sport at that time was a lady called Joy............ Sorry I cant remember her last name. There even were tea and bickys supplied. :)

Ahem, 91, 92, 93, 94...those post-2002 bunch had no class and most of them needed a second chance to win it  :)
