Thank to everyone who responded.

Pretty much what I thought. Obviously I've never played but I couldn't for the life of me understand why everyone would kick from the deck rather than the hand. But opinion seems split.

I'll get to grips with the rules in time.

Rossfan

Going for a score -- far more accurate kicking from the ground.
Ball is stationary , hands not involved so only the foot is moving so only one moving thing to be got roght. Also you can keepm the ball relatively low on a windy day and sure 3 feet above the bar is high enough.
From the hand - ball moving, hands moving foot moving so 3 moving things to be got roght all at the same time. And of course the ball is often skied up in the bloody clouds.

Well done MoK.

Do London still play out of Richmond; they did way back in the late 80's / early 90's.

Just curious, what sort of charge in sterling did they have at the gate?

Man of Kent, are you originally from Ireland? Why are you supporting London? Where does your interest come from?

Not Irish, County Kent born and breed.

I've long had an interest in everything Irish and being a sports fan it was a natural progression. I like the idea of county structure, as with cricket in the UK, but most of all I find it a very enjoyable and absorbing sport.

Premier Sports when free in the UK for a while the season before last which enabled me to follow the Championship for the first time.  Had to subscribe for the final.............that's how they get yer.

Traveled to Ireland for the first time in the late 80's. Didn't get to see any GAA but did see Shamrock Rovers play at Dalymount Park.........Billy Hamilton played for Limerick I think (with the worst limp I've ever seen ) and got roundly abused everytime the ball went anywhere near him!
Good stuff.

When London play in the Connacht Championship it's £10 & has been for donkey's years.

London are currently playing out of Ruslip, West London.

For a league game they seem to charge £5:00, this year and last, which I think is ok. I also watch Non-League football, Ryman Premier League, and that costs a tenner which is a bit steep.

Regards the comment below about £10:00 for a Championship match I can't say as I've not been to one yet! If it is a tenner history suggests this is a once a season price!

It is once a season (they always get the 1st round game of the Connacht Championship at home) although last season they came very close to winning their game against Mayo & I don't know what would have happened if they had of won.

Thanks for the trip report MoK, fair play.

Moving on. Thought I'd keep in this thread rather than start another...

London 0-4 Carlow 2-6 (H/T 0-2 - 04)

For those of you waiting with bated breath for this report, I'm sorry for the delay but my fingers have only just thawed out!

In a howling wind and hammering rain the fact that any sort of game took place in a credit to all concerned!

London weren't caught cold this week as they had been previously against Fermanagh and opened the scoring with a good point. For the rest of the first half both sides battled as much with the weather as each other.

The game was pretty much decided in the opened exchanged of the second half. Carlow took the ball down the left, worked it in close and netted.

It then opened up down the middle for London and, while the keeper made a fine save low to his right, I feel the attack should have ended in three points.

Carlow were then awarded a penalty which seemed, from the halfway line at least, to be harsh appearing to be a heavy shoulder to shoulder. A poorly struck kick was turned away by the keeper and in the ensuing scramble the ref was knocked to the ground. Some justice perhaps!

However Carlow weren't finished and scored another, this time scrappy, goal from a similar position to the first. The shot wasn't cleanly hit but seemed to go under the keeper, who I imagine was disappointed not to keep it out.

In shocking conditions keeping the ball close and avoiding surrendering possession cheaply seemed the order of the day and Carlow did this better than London. On more than one occasion London took frees directly into Carlow hands!

At the end I overheard a Carlow supporter/official tell someone on the phone that "London were filthy" before commenting to a member of the Carlow bench "that's the banana skin out the way". I'm not sure if the "filthy" comment referred to London's tactics or how they played...........either seemed harsh! As for the banana skin, it would suggest that the other counties don't view London as a certain two points.

All in all the weather was the winner!  On to Leitrim.

Would have played Galway while Mayo would have played Fermanagh.
