Good to see Conway got his red card overturned.

Correct decesion, Conway in his first game back got mugged by a headline grapping official, Hughes should hang his head in same, again.

Thats pathetic. A player whose refused to play in the championship and walked away cause he was dropped, getting a position thats requires honour, honesty and respect, terrible call.

Derry will hopefully get two points, although the points they dropped last year accured in celtic park. We were well off the pace last week, so alot of mental work needed during the week, although going by Brennans recent call, he has just gone mental himself :D Galway with new manager will be ful of beans, good game in store for us. Doire abu.

Am I imagining it or are there a lot of derry players carrying excess timber?

Great start for Galway. Wasn't expecting a win today and would have settled for a decent performance given how young the team was.

Flynn and O'Curraoin had mighty games in midfield from two lads who are still not even 20 yet. Early days but they look the real deal. Just need experience now and obviously to fill out a bit.

Nicky Joyce very impressive as well. Bradshaw, Martin and Cummins also good. Hopefully a small chink of light at the end of the tunnel. Need to win a couple of home games now to ensure we stay up at least.

Very surprised to read this scoreline. We've got Derry at hom next so they'll be all out to win that one next week. Were Derry poor today or Galway  just better? Galway away now could be a tough enough game.

Very poor display from Derry today, I think they might have underestimated Galway.
Galway completely wiped us out in the middle 3rd so we can have no complaint, better side won and should have won by more.
A weak Derry side, out of our 6 starting defenders, only 1 of them would have been on the starting championship team last year. However, at least 3 of those will be on our starting 15 this year so that's worrying from a Derry perspective.
Diver and Conway didn't have a good day at all and look really unfit....in fact we looked so much less fit than Galway all over the field.
Devlin made a couple of serious gaffs in goals but made one good save.
Derry need to get their injured players back and soon because based on that performance today it's not promotion we should be worrying about, it's maintaining Div 2 status...we were that bad. For Derry best players were O'Boyle, McCallion, Morrow and Lynch. Mark Craig was doing ok untill he went off injured as was Barry McGoldrick.
Galway are a decent side, tbh I wouldn't have heard of most of the players but it's definitely the makings of a good team there.

Not looking forward to the game with the tirronies next week!

Very nice result. At least there are winners coming though. Division 2 looks interesting. A bit of momentum would do no harm.

Are Derry the worst supported team in the top two divisions ? Seemed to be a lot of room at Celtic Park today for a surprise result- however, there is some talent coming through for the Tribesmen and they must be in with a shout in the next 3 or 4 years .

Yes, by a long way.

Derrys support is pathetic. On the plus side there was a lot of clubs who were involved in the Ulster league yesterday so a lot of them would be at their own club games and then you had the Dungiven u-21 game and Coleraine's camogs were in an all-ireland semi final. By the way how did they do?

Aye, having been at the match, we remarked on the very low attendance present. Perhaps the rugby and other competing sports on TV had a bearing on this, but I also got the feeling that Derry city isn't exactly the heartland of GAA in the county.

Good performance from Galway, but no great surprise to me as I thought they looked quite sharp recently v Sligo in Tuam (albeit that was a glorified challenge). In attack Michael Martin, Mark Hehir and Paul Conroy continued their good form while Nicky's... ahem... return was expedient as he showed very well for the ball and took his scores competently. Gary Sice's introduction at ht also added new impetus. Midfield took a little time to settle but fairly took over once they got going. In defence Colin Forde was good throughout while Hanley did ok on Bradley, one of Derry's better performers. Duane got into well at CHB after a shaky opening and was steady in the second half. Bradshaw was like Sean De Paor of old, raiding forward to pick off scores, but needs to calm down a little and maybe not take the ball into contact as much.

No point in getting too carried away with this result, Derry were not great and some of their players looked rather unfit; this is still a young Galway team and a bit raw in spots. More experience and physical strength / maturity is needed. In particular the remaining home league games v Meath, Tyrone and Kildare will be a better gauge of their worth.

Thought Galway looked very sharp yesterday. MOTM for me was Gareth Bradshaw. Outstanding performance. Wish we had one like him!
