that is TD and ministerial pensions right, not just ministerial pensions? crazy (and disgraceful) altogether, would be interesting to see the service years alongside those names. Easy enough to google I guess but I myself am too lazy.

Ignoring the size of the payments which are clearly too high it is simply wrong that anyone receives a pension before they reach the age of 65. The political class in this country are having a laugh at us. Fair play to SF for highlighting this. Its time the ruling FF/FG/Lab party was thrown to the gutter.

Holy feck - becoming a government minister is almost better than winning the lotto! No wonder so many keep their heads down, toe the party line and sell whatever principles they may have started out with.

Its amazing really, they are pushing out pension ages on other sectors yet they are overlooking their own ages and entitlements. No shame at all and to here them try and justify it, is madness.

No wonder 7 of them ran for the presidency, at least the cheapness option won

It's just another example, among many, of how the political classes see themselves as superior to the people they're supposed to represent. They contemptuously abuse the mandate of the voters to implement approved policies by taking it as carte blanche to give themselves rights, privileges and perks to which they have no entitlement. It's a good reminder of the wisdom of the electorate in recognising this propensity to abuse the mandate by refusing to give them more arbitrary powers in the recent referendum.

The one that really strikes me is Michael McDowell. A man who returned to the Bar to practice law as a Senior Counsel takes €60,388 in a pension from the public purse. In total he spent 12 years as a TD and was appointed as a Senior Counsel in 1987.
