This week the place of my employment has put in device that blocks all mobile phone signal. Obviously workers are outraged  :o 'God forbid there is an emergency at home' was the cry from most.
Anyway is this legal?

They'd probably need a licence from the phone regulator to do this, OFCOM in NI and COMREG in the South.  It might be worth asking if they have one.

They should be more worried about internet usage during work hours by the looks of things.

If there was an emergency at home, could someone ring the company landline?  :P

The poor boss's head must be turned with people messing on their mobiles to go to this extreme!!

QUB used to say the hearing aid system they used in lecture halls blocked phone signal. Don't know if that was true but I always had problems with signal in lectures

Is it so wrong that the people who pay your wages want you to get on with some work as opposed to making phone calls, f**king about on facebook or online. Too many people want to do as little as they can get away with and grab the money at the end of the week/month. One of the reasons we are in this mess. >:(

I think it's easier to implement some new Terms in their contracts of employment stating use of mobiles are banned etc then get everyone to sign and if seen abusing this new clause - bin them!!
