Have only seen 1 match on TG4 but the game was much freer and less stop/start, especially when you consider the weather.  Should it mbe introduced in the championship?

GAA politburo is very keen to ensure we all think they're working anyway. Weekly press releases now on Monday mornings telling us how many yellow cards were issued and how much more playing time there was. What's that all about? We never got that before. Why the PR push? Don't they trust the members to make up their own minds?

We even had Pat Daly interviewed on the 6 O'Clock news. Pat is obviously not keeping up and seemed unaware that we here on this forum had debunked the notion of third man tackles, obstruction and the like and proved they don't exist. Pat was pointing out that among other types of fouls, the incidence of "blocking fouls" has reduced. What are blocking fouls, Pat?

I think everything is rosy in the garden at the minute but basically our referees had problems implementing existing rules never mind the new ones which to be honest are quite open to interpretation which is not good either because it will leadto inconsistency.

Wait until something meaningful is at stake and there will be uproar I think it's nearly guaranteed.

Well some of the managers seem to be suggesting it is going alright. There is a clear list of infringments that warrant yellow cards so there should be little confusion but the nature of football and the tackle means that there will always be a certain amount of interpretation involved. The test for administrators will come with the bigger games but they must face down any criticism and allow the rules enough time to bed in before making a proper judgement on their success

Its impossible to judge at the moment as most competitions at this time of year are glorified challenge matches with rarely full strength teams in action.  Will be interesting to see how players and officials cope with the new rules when the action intensifies during the league.

The rules certainly are working - the new rules mean that there is hardly a tackle or hit anymore - it's got very like basketball it is so sanitised now.

I can really see people flocking to see this new game. It's about time the whole thing was cleaned up and fair dues to those who came up with the new rules.

It was great to see Gerry Kinneavy sending off 12 /13 players the first day out.

He must have thought he'd died and gone to Longford.
