Would be happy to play Cork in the qualifiers, better sooner than later as we wouldn't the experience to beat them on the big stage. Kildare have no history of winning so we really need to pick up some silverware, we have plenty of belief but the winning culture of Kerry for example gives them an edge as there is an air of entitlement/arrogance that gives them that edge in tight games.

We're actually quite a young side, tonight only 5 starting players were over 25 and only 1 over 30 and I think our u21s next year will go very close to a Leinster. McGeeney while occasionally exposed for inexperience is doing a fantastic job in my opinion, he is slowly changing the culture of Kildare football on and off the field. When people talk about Kildare now they talk about mental strength, physicality and toughness, words never associated with Kildare football before.

He just needs to get the hair cut, he wouldn't look out of place in punchstown this weeked.

The Hair is probalby his only concession to the that side show on in the middle of Kildare this week .

Plenty of positives to take out of last night. I said when the draw was made that Laois were the perfect draw to get Kildare motivated again and so it proved. Hopefully that's the Dublin match out of the system and we're back on the horse again.

I had my doubts over the team selection but hats off to the management, they called it spot on. Laois had no answer to big Tomás and both Dowling and Kelly worked tirelessly to create space for him. Two players that I have previously expressed reservations about (Hughie Lynch and Pádraig O'Neill) had fine games and Mick Foley was absolutely immense at full-back. Also special mention to Mikey Conway on his return after two years on the sidelines. Great to see him in the bán go leor and the reception he received on his introduction was fully waranted after the work he has put in to get back. Hopefully now we can generate a bit of momentum like last year and get on a bit of a roll.

Connolly - solid again
McLoughlin - gave away one silly free but apart from that can't recall Tierney doing much
Foley - playing inspired football this season, real leader at the back
McGrillen - got the better of Munnelly after a few hairy moments early on
White - never going to be found wanting in the physical exchanges and put the disappointment of the last day behind him
M O'Flaherty - another man who was below par against Dublin but back on form last night
Lyons - Bolton wasn't missed which is a huge compliment to Ollie, should start again next weekend
Doyle - class act as always but I remain unconvinced he's the answer at midfield against the top teams
Lynch - had his best game for Kildare
P O'Neill - kicked two monster points and got through a mountain of ball
E O'Flaherty - not as prominent as he was against Dublin but can be pleased with his display
Callaghan - one of the key cogs in the Kildare machine, vital he stays injury free
Kelly - will probably be a bit disappointed to have been subbed but his workrate was impressive
O'Connor - he was clearly fired up from the off and Laois had no one to match his power and aggression, they'd love him in Biffoland!
Dowling - understandably nervous but never let the head drop and kept showing, has a big future ahead of him for Kildare

Kavanagh - positive reaction to being dropped, goal and a point should have done his confidence some good
T O'Neill - must be showing well in training, was always a classy player at underage level so I'd have no fear if he had to be called upon again
Conway - super to have him back
Scanlon - that must be his first score in championship football?
Flanagan - underlines the strength in depth that he is now struggling to force his way into the 20, still a good option to have
There's Seán Brady going in, what dya think Seán?

Our best unit this year, Foley was superb and an track for All-Star with his performances, seen off Seanie Hannon (better than any Kildare forward don't you know), Joe Sheridan, Diarmuid Connolly and Donnie Kingston, serious reputations there and finally releasing his potential. McGrillen is always at least a 7 out of 10 every week.

Really impressed with Connolly, improving every game he plays.

Sure Mick Foley is that good that he can stop both Seánie Furlong and Tony Hannon!  ;)

Connolly has made a big difference alright. Shorty just isn't as comfortable under the high ball and it ultimately cost us last year for Coulter's goal. You can sense that the full-back line have confidence in Connolly behind them.

McGeeney has a bit of a selection headache for next weekend if Bolton is back. I'm not sure you can drop Ollie Lyons after last night but do you leave him on the wing or do you bring Bolton in and move Ollie back to the corner?

:-[ Yep Sean Furlong.

Nice to have selection headaches though, keeps the squad on their toes.

Offaly might have given Clane the Connors but sure Clane gave Offaly Tom Cribben.........

Don't forget the cream of the county Seamus Dillon.

Fergus McFadden is also a croft man, fine footballer in his day.

well Dinny, you cant complain now about Cill dara not getting decisions from the ref !
The first two goals were frees out ! Still the end result would prob have still been a win for kildare - just would have made it closer and sighter. Laois are some hoors to crumble when it goes against them !

I'd say that Wexford and Kildare are great examples of polar opposites in football.
imo Wexford have better bigger stronger players, with more firepower in attack and a very astute manager on the line.
Kildare have a good if not great defence and a manger who is learning but was badly exposed v Dublin (and v meath imo) but the sheer belief in the Kildare players is getting them through.
There are a few star players, a excellent FB line, an under rated midfield (with JD out of position)
and players who can score but for some reason cannot do it playing for their county.
But its lke the old meath thing, they believed they were never beaten, that they were a second half team etc etc - in the latter 90's they were actually sihtey enough to be honest, but this belief kept them in and sometimes won games they shoul dhave been stuffed in !
Kildare are along the same lines. Wexford hadnt the belief even though they had the winning of the game yesterday. While I dont think they are going to win the SAM Maguire, Kildare will be hard beaten, because they will never give up.
Imagine what they'd be like if they had a tactician manager like Ryan, Harte or the extra zip that micko brings - or if Kildare finally got a forward division shooting when properly placed and accurately doing so (like Eoin OF apparantly does for his club).

I wont say that the flourbags play with gay abandon, as people will think I'm slagging McGeeneys hair! (no I'm not jealous Dinny!)

Great performance on Saturday night.
Tomas O'Connor was man of the match for me. He was brilliant.
Delighted to see Mikey Conway coming back.
Mick Foley is having a super season.
Hugh Lynch was great in the middle, especially in the second half.
Great to see James Kavanagh come on and score a goal, I'd start him the next day.
Meath will be tough but if we play as well as we did in the second half against Laois we should beat them!

You're entitled to your opinion but I take it with a pinch of salt when it comes to Kildare football as you are more wrong than right. What you give in one hand you like to take back in the other, your comparison between Kildare and Wexford is just absurd and the fact that the you refuse to give McGeeney any sort of credit is just weird and Kildare are where they are because of belief, did he beat you up in a game or something?

I've never read or heard in person you say a purely positive thing about Kildare football.  Meath, Dublin and Derry yes but with Kildare and Antrim (you seem to dislike them even more than Kildare) you're just myopic.
