Thanks Mayo - I wonder would the police caution count as criminal conviction? It would be a bit rich the australians refusing a criminal at this stage. LOL

Its 100% not a criminal conviction and if asked whether you have any criminal convictions you are fully entitled to reply in the negative.

is there anyway u can check you police record?

i got lifted 1 nite and shit mysel in the cell but the cops let me go the next day without a caution or anything.

A police caution is not a conviction as TAM says, however you are best to declare it on your WHV application as (a) if you have any thoughts at this stage of staying beyond your WHV like getting a work visa, such a declaration in the long run will make things easier because while a WHV asks if you have a conviction, forms like a permanent residence visa will ask if you have been found guilty of an offence, which a caution may be classed as, and (b) the immigration boys and girls in Australia do not like to be mucked about with. If you have not declared something on your visa application that you were supposed to, trying to pull the wool over their eyes, you'll be on the next plane home and be banned from entering the country for a number of years. Best to be honest on your application and landing card. IMO I can't see a caution for drunken behaviour being a show stopper, though they may ask for a police record check. Perhaps the best bet is to contact either the Australian High Commission in London or the Australian Embassy in Dublin. Your debts and credit rating will have no impact on your WHV application, it will just ask you to declare that you have at least AU$5,000 in funds available when you arrive so that you can at least support yourself for the first few weeks in the country if you can't get work straight away. It's highly unlikely you'll be asked to declare it at immigration, I wasn't anyway, but have say a recent bank statement photocopied in your hand luggage just in case.
