I'm reading that there are enough guns (working) in the world to shoot every person 6 :o times over without using the same gun twice in other words there are six guns each for every man women and child on the planet :o with sales to every crankpot warmonger in the world with a few quid continuing unabated the price of weapons continues to fall as competition between armaments companies drives the price down eg the Barret 'light 50'  once the preferred weapon of the Provo's 'sniper at work' lethal for over a mile capable of penetrating the engine block of your car and still kill you. can be purchased with the standard telescopic sight for a measly 8500 dollars thats about 5500stg brand new! ex factory. second hand about half that price since the new ones have been upgraded.
the US navy only bought 800 of these highly specialised weapons that are capable of shooting down a helicopter up to a mile away. now before you start saving up your dole for one of these babys just think how cheap your standard semi automatic assault rifle is maybe only a couple of hundred quid, perhaps an UZI machine pistol for 5 or 6 hundred quid. now consider that there are virtually none of these weapons in civilised western countries where they are mostly manufactured... now just think how many of these 'cheap' guns are in poor  African dictatorships or Arab dictatorship/kingdoms sold to them by guys like prince Andrew and tony Blair and bush

six guns per head I would imagine stretches the bounds of credibility - at least I certainly hope it does. maybe by not using any gun twice they meant not reloading?

There 200+ million guns in the US alone so the global figure must be 1 billion plus.

that would suggest my take on it is way off, as is whatever Lawnseed has been reading given there are about 7bn peole.

Aye, but a lot of them are under concrete in Louth and Monaghan.

old ak 47's are 20 dollars on the chinese mongolian border they are worth more than that for scrap in traynors, some guns are over 150years old and still work perfectly.. think of hand guns... in america. even the irish army have tens of thousands of guns. guns on boats, guns on helicopters, etc.. it sounds incredible but when you think of the US "defence" (they mean attack) budget of trillions of dollars... maybe this article is stretching it abit though

i was very disappointed to learn that the minigun featured in the film 'predator' the one your man levels half the forest with is actually a fake :o seriously.. the m60 minigun fires between 2000 and 4000 rounds a minute :o (ffs) and has an electric motor driving it in the film an electric cable is hidden from view,  the recoil when mounted on the side of a helicopter can cause the helicopter to veer off course, for a human to hold this weapon and fire it they'd have to weigh 0.5tonnes general electric GE who manufacture it tried a smaller version but it wasn't practical.. just buy a chainsaw  ;)

ps the helicopter mounted minigun featured in the mel gibson film 'we were soldiers' where they slaughter the Vietnamese near the end is real and a more typical application of this devastating weapon
