Read that Jackie McDonald was at the funeral. Trying to think of the link.

Representing his community I would think.
In the democracy we live in Jackie McDonald is no-one's representative.  Was he really at the funeral?

He was , he is becoming a bit of a statesman.
And that is no bad thing. His community (working class loyalists) would perhaps consider that they are not represented by existing parties and have not had a real political voice since David Irvine. In saying that, we do live in a democracy and as he hasn't been tainted with the same drug dealing and
in-fighting that has defined the other UDA leaders, and he should stand in the election to see if there is support.

He was sentenced to 10 years for extortion, blackmail and intimidation. A real gent I am sure.

Don't let this degerate into a mudsling match.

It is great that Peter Robinson is showing real statemans ship and is changing.  I'm sure what he has done may not play well with some of his supporters.

Don't know much about Jackie McDonald but hopefully he has changed as has Gerry Kelly MLA.
I have more respect for a man

means what he says...

He would not be the only one with a colourful past up in Stormont but we need to draw a line under the past.
We want Unionists to stop bringing up Gerry's past and they can manage to look past Gerry K's and Martins past we can do the same.

He's doing the decent thing. He was universally praised for his comments over Michaela Harte's death. This shouldn't be a political issue.

Stuff like this annoys me, should a persons funeral really be hijacked by people he never even knew or who wouldn't have had time for him when he was alive?

I'll think you'll find he is at least second unless you want to ignore the votes cast in the north east of the country

I really don't give two flying fucks about Peter's ulterior motives, if indeed he had any, when he attended the mass. There are other means and places to debate the political aspects of his presence at the ceremony.
I would like to think that the attendance of the First Minister brought some crumb of consolation to Ronan's family and friends.
