seems like peter robinson is annoyed when the shinners and the stoops call the north of ireland the "north of ireland". he wants this part of this island referred to as 'northern ireland'. i doubt if the 'wee six' would meet with peters approval just as 'our wee country' doesnt sit well with nationalists. then you've got the whole derry/londonderry thing bubbling away with alan shatter getting mixed up. for me i'd call the place whatever peter wants if he'd only quit calling the 6 counties "ulster"  >:(

Never mind that. It's not as annoying as that wally Canning continually calling Karl Lacey "Carol". It annoys me and I'm not even Karl Lacey.

Shamrock Shore

Or RTE being called ARRTE by some announcers on RTE radio.

Anything uttered by Hectaw. Was he acting the gom in Croke Park earlier?

Wtf.......... Do the shinners not call it londonderry??

Dougal Maguire

Or the AA road watch girls on the radio who talk about inbind traffic queueing on the sitebind rindabite
Careful now

Orior

Just like following the soccer team, calling it northern ireland only helps to justify its existence.

No thanks Mr Robinson.

How about Peter and Unionists stop calling the six counties, north of Ireland, northern Ireland, Ulster?

Eamonnca1

I don't mind saying "Northern Ireland" the odd time if I have to be specific enough to refer to the state. If it's clear enough from the context then I'll say "the north", like when I'm talking to a free stater and we know we're talking about Ireland. "The six counties" is a bit convoluted for my liking. But I wouldn't be seen dead saying "Londonderry" or "the province" or "the mainland".

heganboy

Someone I know very well wrote a dissertation and the only phrase used referring to the North was "the artificially created British occupied six county statelet"
Never underestimate the predictability of stupidity

What about 'the broadcasting region'.

Well that increased the wordcount rather more than using "NI".

definatly never "the province"

There's four provinces of Ireland. It's another thing Unionist get confused about, such as Ulster.
