Waste of time tony?

Puckoon

There is a serious craze of people doing this at my work. I did a run through all the exercises (basically one month of the P90X) and I'll give you my honest take on it. No doubt there will be a few smart arse remarks. :)

1. I was looking for a short cut to get back in shape - and the infomercials really can sell you this product.

2. It hurts. I mean it really hurts. I'd have pretty strong legs and back and I thought the plyometric workout would be a good one and I wouldnt hurt too bad. Next day I had to lift my legs into bed. The day after that I slept on the floor. It was torture. The worst part was there was a fella with a bionic leg just destroying me on the video.

3. The fallback of P90X as a long term program I think is that it makes you miserable. It's not a big deal to get through one of the work out - but the pain you are in for the next couple of days is just unreal. Worse than any other kind of training I ever did. You get discouraged and demoralised and its hard to stick with it long enough to see any of the benefits.

4. That said - two of the fellas at work are doing it and they have gone one full pass at it and look great. They are doing it together - which probably helps to push each of the others on.

I realised a couple things doing this - one of them was that you don't get in shape by just leaving the DVDs on top of the player, and the other was that about 3 weeks into the program I was gassed one night so I made myself a sandwich and watched the rest of the work out. That was the last time I put one of the disks in the DVD player.

It's like anything else - there are no shortcuts. I'm currently training hard at something and the results have been fantastic - but it's a lot of sweat, and changes to the lifestyle habits. Getting into and staying in shape just requires hard work - unless you're one of the genetically lucky few.

Tyrones own

I've done it four times, and will do it again in the run up to a race I'm doing in June, it's a great program and addition to any other training your doing, would highly recommend it.

I think the trick to breaking into it easy and not being sore after it is to run through it for a couple of weeks with little to no weights and at about 50 % effort and you're then good to go...or at least I was :-\ and I'd agree, doing it with a friend would be half the battle.

Cheers for the feedback puck & TO

I DL it earlier and done the 1st dvd..Hardest workout i ever done..Would usually go to the gym 4/5 times  a week and thought i was in ok shape but my head was spinning after that and everything burned, going to be tough to keep that going for 90 days..Definitely a great challenge

Your diet seems to play a big part in it...every 4 weeks having to take more or less protein, carbs etc...Any advice on that lads?
