Does anyone know why there is always a line of cars parked either side of the road at the Monaghan/Derry slip road off the M1 heading Northbound?

your advising about avoiding shitholes and then send him to Boyle????

if you dont like driving head for Oranmore take the m6/m4 to the m50 but if you want to see the country The slasher seems to have the most adventous route even allowing for boyle

Stay in Ballina or go anywhere but Dundalk. :D

Denn Forever

Sligo, Enniskillin, M1, Dundalk.

Is this way feasible?  Surely as direct as going via the M50

Mad in the head going near Enniskillen (Sligo - Enniskillen one of the worst roads and then you have to get through Enniskillen). Absolutley mad in the head going near the M50 unless you are a total pussy thats afraid to drive on a road without a hard shoulder. The best route is the one I told ye above, I know cos I've done them all many times.

Mullingar is totally out of the way.

Longford is a shit hole that could take 30 mins to get through if you hit it at the wrong time.

As for Boyle. I suggest you go Ballina, Collooney, Boyle, Carrick - all decent roads and not too busy. Carrick Ballinamore Belturbet is bendy enough but decent surface and not busy. Cavan - Dundalk is decent enough.

That route you will do in 3.5 hrs.

Hilarious. A Cavanman: (a) advising anyone about 'decent' roads, (b) calling anywhere a shithole and then mentioning Belturbet/Cavan with a straight face, and (c) calling Mullingar 'totally out of the way'.  You couldn't make it up.

By the way, don't go to Dundalk, stay at home.  It can't be worth it.  Ever.

Coming from a Longford man  :D

Myles you do know that you can get through Lonford handy from the N5 if that is the way you are coming into Longord?

Cavan people can't be told about that rat-run, it's forbidden.  Anyhow, there are lads in Teffia Park waiting for CN registrations with bucketfuls of stones.  ;)
