in fairness lads hes not the first parasite to use the gaa to create a profile for himself to get on the political ladder. look at sean kelly he was promised a crack at a fianna fail seat in kerry by bertie in exchange for his support for the opening up of croker, when it turned out that bertie couldnt fit him in he just switched to fianna gail. these fellas would sell their own mother for power and an expense account >:(

I would feel sorry for JOM except for the fact that he was undermining John Maughan during his time in charge (not that I had any huge fondness for him).  That said I believe JOMs heart was never really in this job from the start.  It was politically expedient and I suppose he himself believed he could do both jobs and bring success to Mayo.
Remember also he has been in county management for 25+ years. That is a long time and it is nearly impossible to keep the appetite up.

he's a typical politician, they've gone into election mode because they smell blood in the water, also he sees that mayo are not going too well and that its negative publicity, I'd say Edna told him to pull the plug as the push is on for the dail, as well as that last opinion poll that put labour in front of finn gael that has really put the wind up them

It's not just the manager that needs replacing as others have pointed out - the clubs need to stand up here and do something about the Board and those in charge that have been equally complicit.

I would start the league, with an under 23 squad and keep going even if we get beaten by 20 ffffiinn points a game, who gives a shit. I am in my mid 40's. I have been dragged/begged to go to games since I was 10. I wonder will I ever see Mayo winning an all-ireland.  We are probably five years at best away from being competitive at that level.

Signing off as a depressed Mayo supporter.

I think for many teams this approach or something similar is the only way of going forward. However, as was proven in Westmeath this year, there is no appetite within the GAA for three and five year plans at senior level that may be painful at first and there is no real understanding among the supporters of what is required to develop a players physically, tactically and mentally to be a top inter-county player.

Basically supporters are looking for managers with magic wands, and despite all the talk there will be about building for the future, all that is forgotten after Sunday when they pay their euros to get in and then expect to see their team win. It's  almost as like we will leave the planning and development to Tuesday and Thursday night but we want to see the end product every Sunday.

Counties want managers in, and no county wanted a manager more than Mayo wanted Johnno, but if success isn't immediate then they want him out just as quick and some Mayo supporters have been baying for Johnno's blood for 18 months or more. That scenario is mirrored all over the country.

Johnny hasn't been a success this time with Mayo and there have been many very interesting opinions given as to why, and on this occasion he was given time and he was given opportunity, but I think that he genuinely lost the belief of the players. Johnno has lost his mojo I guess.

I think even his statement last night was rather pathetic and typical of a politician. He is learning is trade well in that area at least.

This time around Johnno failed, he should acknowledge that, hold his hand up, thank people for the opportunity and move on.

At least now he will be able to concentrate on the politics (is he on enda s new front bench yet ) and he wont have the small job of managing mayo get in his way .

Agree completley, look at the shambles over the past 20 years, the same old heads there having a great old time of it, the likes of Feeney etc. When was the last time any county board member did anything for the good of the GAA firstly, and self preservation second? Also the shambles of the Mc Hale park redevelopment, a stand with pillars in it, no press box, floodlights, all the locals pissed off and a mountain of debt to be picked up by the clubs as usual. How could a business plan be put in place that factored in a sell out match between Galway and Mayo. This sums up the whole lot really arrogance and self centered interests, JOM has gone, how many more will follow? Not many i feel, time for the clubs to stand up for once and for all, yet any other year of failure and shamboilc runnig of the GAA in mayo.
