Apologies if there has been a thread on this before, couldn't really be bothered searching.
Has anyone here tried any spread betting? Just set up on pp trader there and have been dabbling, but would be interested if there was anyone with some bit of experience here.

I would like to find out more about it too. The main concern I have with it is that when u make a bet u never know how much exactly u stand to lose? Is this correct?

Yes and no.
As regards soccer as an example if you "bet" that the 1st goal will be earlier than 40min at 1euro per minute.
The most you can lose in that case is 50euro (if 1st goal was scored in 90th min).
On same note most you can win would be 39 if goal in 1st minute.
Thats a (very very) rough example. Am sure there are more in the know guys on here who will
give you better info.

Rossie, I was referring to spread betting on the markets. I probably should have made that clearer, but it seems that similar considerations may apply.

Mickey, I'm only new to this so don't quote me but as far as I know the answer is yes, you can lose more than your original deposit but if you are careful you never will. If Ryanair shares are worth €1, you can bet that for every cent they go up, you win a euro, and every cent they go down, you lose a euro. Now you might have only depoisited €50 in the account but if the share price goes to 0, then you will have to pay €100 because it has gone down 100 cent.

However, most traders allow you to put what is called a stop loss order on your bet. This means that you put an order on the bet saying that if the price goes below 95 cent, then the bet is cancelled and your maximum loss would be €5.

Conversely, if you had taken a "sell" option, i.e. a bet that the share price would go down, then you could put a stop loss order on the bet that would cancel the bet when the share price went above €1.05, so your maximum loss would be €5

Limited experience but the Corners would be a nice starting pont.

If you take 5< corners at £1 a corner you may loose 5. Or win a few quid.

Will help you get your eye in.

Then larger markets would be the time in seconds of the first throw in/free kick. Big time loss to be made.
