If you really have to ask those questions, and i suspect you  dont, any answer would be pointless, as you would clearly be lacking in the decency, respect and religious feeling to appreciate it. Nevertheless the majority Christian members of the population are still entitled to express their view. Religion is not merely a private manner, it has a right and duty to public witness within society, something you so called liberals fail to understand. But then anyone who disagrees with you is wrong
;D

Yes indeed,  how dare a citizen ask such a silly question. I donĀ“t know what got into Muppet, to question the untouchables.
Probably a bit of the devil in him.

"it (the Church) has a right and duty to public witness within society"
Yes it has a right but not the absolute right to bear witness.
The Catholic Church is not the state church nor has it a special place in the constitution
Citizens have a right to question any legislation the Church has managed to influence in the past.
Just because the legislation comes from the Catholic influence, does not surround it with a sacred untouchable fence.

In matters to do with public witness the Catholic Church is not concerned with the welfare of society, they are concerned with protecting the Church above the welfare of society.

Who is saying they shouldn't be able to express their view? And why should religion be elevated above being a private matter? There is nothing inherently superior about it. It absolutely should be a private matter, in that it should be privately supported and the government should stay the f**k out of it. If you want to teach your kids catholicism or voodoo or wicca, go for it, but I shouldn't be denied a pint on good friday or whatever just because it offends your religious sensibilities. If you can explain to me how my having said pint will infringe upon your rights or your life, go ahead.

I'm not the one presuming to lecture people on what they should or shouldn't do with their time.

And again please point out where the Bible bans pubs opening on Good Friday.

We should either remove references to God or remove "republic" from the name of this country.

The mention of God in the constitution is not the problem.

The problem are those citizens who think God is on their side (only), who try to shape society as an extension of their fundamental beliefs by influencing the laws of the land.

Myles I think you just hit the nail on the head, it was glaringly obvious, staring at us all the time. Republic is not part of the name of this country (26 counties) Ireland or Eire is, the Republic of Ireland is and has always ever been a Soccer team.
Time to take a more chill-pill approach to life.
