why would Gerry Adams say he was in the IRA,the only people who should ever admit they have been in the IRA are those who have been jailed for membership. If you were sitting in company and some p***k was telling you about his IRA exploits what would you think of him.As for Gerry clinging to power don't think it is something he has very craved, if he had wanted he could have been like a lot of others and stood for MEP,DFM,or even could have stood for council and been Belfasts 1st SF mayor.Always felt that was his strength he put other people forward for other posts and therefore strengthened SF in the north whereas the SDLP old hands held on to every post they could and didn't allow young people to flourish in that party

Adams as President of SF couldn't be seen to be second to anyone. It would have diminished the perception of the job.

who would he be 2nd to if he had stood as MEP or been Mayor of Belfast or DFM or even taken a ministerial post

Perhaps not so much as MEP but the party hardly want him strutting about Brussels. He is President of a 32 county party it would be foolish to stand for Mayor of Belfast. As DFM he would be percieved to be deputy to the FM. THis isn't just SF this is all parties. Hume didn't take DFM and niether would Paisley or Robinson if the situation was reversed. As Minister he would be answerable to the JFMs.

It might be perceived that DFM is an inferior position to FM but it is not as you are well aware.I except what your sayng about Mayor and MEP but I was just making the point to pints that if it was a case of Gerry just clinging to power he has had plenty of opportunities to have other powerful posts but has been always willing to spread them around

I have really gone off Senor Adams in recent months. Seems to be the most dishonest politician regarding his non-membership of IRA, his brother Liam and other issues lately. Can't believe a word comes from his mouth anymore.   Gerry Kelly and McGuinness seem to be honest and you know wat you're getting... Gerry ain't... and is another clinging to power no matter what.

Was Martin McGuinness jailed for membershp?... maybe he was... I ain't into SDLP at all so don't know why you're using that arguement. Anyway, I find others in SF are honest don't think Gerry is... why not refuse to say if he was in IRA rather than insult our intelligence.

Yes Martin was,and I never said you were into the SDLP I was just trying to explain my opinion that by Gerry not standing for every post he helped bring other members of the party to prominence .The old members of the SDLP Hume McGrady and Mallon held every post possible and for too long they were the only faces of that party seen on TV and in my opinion that aided in its fall as the largest nationalist party  in the north

Im not saying the operation wasn't botched but it was inevitable that this shop would be targeted given the purpose it was used for. Maybe if the decent people of the area had protested and got the unionist paramilitaries to bugger off.
How do you know the locals murdered by Begley were aware of the use of the rooms away from the shop?
Ardoyne IRA knew what they were doing, they could have killed Adair and his colleagues any time, they chose to plant a bomb in a shop on the Shankill Rd on a Saturday afternoon

Total balls how do you know that the Ardoyne  IRA could have taken out c company at anytime, they had just left the upstairs of the fish shop 10 mins before the bomb went off.It was a bad operation as simple as that. But sure you seem to know better.
Common sense would tell you that if you weren't a provo lackey

Well Willie I know you think you know everything about the IRA in Armagh but don't think you would know a lot about it in Ardoyne never mind know what they were thinking and how they carried out operations so I think you should just stick to chasing the diesel smugglers around Armagh ::)
