Try making the same kind of mistake about a jew or a muslim live on tv and try and see the reaction!

Says more about the Jew's or Muslim's if they took it thick and made a fuss.

TBH I forgot about it too and I only seen 3 people in the whole of Dublin yesterday with ashes (otherwise I would never have remembered). It's amazing how some of you are making it as some deliberate conspiracy or orchestrated attack on Catholicism.

I think Miss Burley can be exonerated. What puzzles me though is her ignorance of the rituals of the one true church on Ash Wednesday, whilst simultaneously being in tune about confession, penance, and the Hail Mary.

However I can imagine the uproar if Lynda Bryans or Wendy Austin had done something similar up here

Like alot of newsreaders she is a glorified bingo caller. I believe that many TV channels do not allow any adlibbing anymore in the news and follow a strict script.

Personally hate newsreaders standing up while delivering the news.

At first I thought she was probably a prod who didn't know about the ashes and it was a genuine mistake.  But if she has a Catholic backround I'm sure she has some idea about what they were and she was trying to be smart/funny.  Didn't work.
