In the 1950s, the only place you could get a drink in Dublin on St Patrick's Day was at the Dog Show in the RDS. Needless to say, this situation attracted a fair few patrons to the Dog Show who otherwise wouldn't have been near the place. On one occasion, the great Brendan Behan was propping up the bar at the Dog Show and he is reputed to have said "don't you know, this would be a grand place for a drink were it not for all those f***ing dogs!"
