That is a great quote/analogy
Seen a reply to it that said well if that happens in nature the other monkeys normally tear the hoarder to pieces :D.

If you got those bananas 25 years ago they'd be doubled in price ;D

The issue isn't so much billionaires it's the sheer size of businesses now that they've been globalised. Musk is worth 500 billion because he owns 16% of Tesla and 40% of Space X. Bezos is worth 250 billion despite owning less than 8% of Amazon. It's globalisation that is the main issue, it's created super companies that choke competitors and limit access to resources and supply chains.

Ideally we'd have something like the situation that prospered from the 1920's up until the 1980's. Musk would own 16% of an American car company and be a multi-millionaire and not a multibillionaire owning 16% of a global car company. What is needed is something like the anti-trust legislation of the 1890s America applied on a global scale. But the issue now is that it's being blocked because the Chinese, American, Japanese and EU don't trust each other and government strength is intrinsically linked to the power of it's large corporations. No-one is going to break up their own countries mega-corporations unless they think that their international opposition are going to do the same. That level of mutual trust just doesn't exist between the EU, America and China.

The party — and its leader — have become increasingly unpopular with the general public. The personal ratings of Starmer and his chancellor, Rachel Reeves, have plummeted. Reform UK was neck and neck with Labour in the polls in April but is now 13 points ahead. MPs are braced for the government to become still more disliked later this month when Reeves raises taxes in the second Budget in a row.

Ah, sure, Starmer & Reeves are busy making a judgement call that everyone is f**king daft & that the 2025 budget will have been completely forgotten about, by General Election time 2029.

Yet another U-Turn for this government.

Leaking policy to gauge reaction? Still, seems like they havent a clue in terms of strategy.

Their only strategy is to  cling to power. Just like all the other parasite parties  everywhere . Do whatever it takes

The latest wheeze seems to be to reduce the threshold for the 40p and 45p rates thus bringing more people into the higher marginal rate bands while freezing the threshold for the 20p rate, ensuring that as wages rise most people pay more in tax.

I think this will be popular with the public as most people don't know what tax thresholds are and a competent government would spin this as people who earn more pay more.

The rates of tax in the UK are mental.

The UK tax system is bizarre and incredibly complex.  No wonder that the Office of Tax Simplification was closed.

It's deliberately complex so the  plebs  won't understand it

I'm in dispute with HMRC at the minute of a bill, took 2 hours to get a human to talk to first, then they said, computer says no this is what you owe, then the second one said the same, I asked why I owed the money, I've no problem paying it but I need to know, in layman's terms how I got to this point, she couldn't answer, sent me to some one else who said the same but broke it down a lot better, I challenged the dates of the issue, she looked a bit further and said, hmmm ok I see what has happened here, I'll get back to you once I speak to my boss on this!

Still waiting and still owing!
