Would be worth going to and a worthy cause.

QuoteA Charity GAA football match between the Jockeys and Trainers in aid of Children's University Hospital in Temple Street will take place on November 7 in Navan.

Temple Street Hospital is the National Pediatric Renal, Dialysis and Transplant Hospital of Ireland. Temple Street Hospital always needs new haemodialysis and peritoneal machines. The cost of this equipment is €35,000 per machine. Our aim is to raise enough money to purchase a haemodialysis machine.

The Jockeys vs. Trainers Charity GAA Match will be held at Simonstown GAA pitch in Navan, Co. Meath on Nov 7th at 7.30pm under floodlights.

So far there has been plenty of interest from both Jockeys and Trainers. There was an impromptu practice kick around between the jockeys in the Parade Ring at Navan Racecourse last Saturday much to the bewilderment of the At The Races commentary team who were unaware of what was going on!

Local Jockeys taking part in the event include Barry Geraghty, Puppy Power, Paul Carberry, Andrew Lynch, Andrew Duff and Rodger Loughran together with Davy Russell, Martin Ferris, Mark Walsh, Matthew Bowes and Alain Cawley to name a few.

The jockeys will be managed by Ken Whelan and Noel Meade is to take charge of the Trainers team with many well known faces from Irish Racing signed up to such as Willie Mullins, Colm Murphy, Paul Nolan, Conor O'Dwyer, Shark Hanlon together with local trainers Gavin Cromwell, Ronan O'Dwyer and Tony Martin!

The game will be followed by music, entertainment and a raffle in the Simonstown GFC clubhouse.

If anyone would like to donate to the cause, they can do so by logging onto www.mycharity.ie

Looks like there's enough Meath men in there to do damage.
It won't be the next manager but the one after that Meath will become competitive again - MO'D 2016

John Cullen's Wexford jersey has seen better days!
There's Seán Brady going in, what dya think Seán?

Louth Exile

Looks like Royals against the rest, going by the photo and BJ not even wearing the jersey.

They should be watching out for Martin, I'd say that he'd be a hatch man  ;)

Well planned, there is a good days racing in Navan that Sunday with the frotria chase and lissmullen hurdle. The gaels field is less than a 1/4 mile from the track

Coming from Summerhill I'd say Martin would make a handy full-back!

Wonder is big Willie McCreery togging out for the trainers? Doubt there'll be many lining out that have played in an AIF!

You'd have to have him in there, lets face it, the jockeys won't exactly have to many big men on their team, you certainly won't be seeing a twin towers startegy deployed.

Match finished in a draw according to Noel Meade when interviewed on ATR today. Jockeys equalised with the last kick of the game. Apparently Tony Martin covered every blade of grass on the field and Paul Nolan was raging at some of the refereeing!

Anyone at it?

Didn't go down myself, I'd say Tony Martin was like Colm Coyle in his prime!!

mighty meath

Was at the game, great craic and good report on the game in this weeks Meath Chronicle (sat14th Nov). THe trainers had a tough comeback after the jockeys scored 3 goals in the first 5 minutes of play but they persisted and were unlucky not to win the game, the Jockeys got a 14yrd free in the last minute and roger loughran put it over to level the scores. Brendan Cummins from LMFM was doing a running commentry from the sideline and he was great to listen to, even if he was telling the ref what frees to give and which to let go!!!

Let's hope this becomes an annual event because it was a great evenings entertainment

Knee in the back there, good lad. No one looking for the breaks though, thats been our problem all year. Eamonn, we'll have to look elsewhere.

Robbie Power the dirty b*****d!!

Anyone know if Willie McCreery togged out for the trainers?

mighty meath

Yeah, he togged out for the trainers but think he pulled his hamstring after a few minutes and had to come off...got award for player needing the most improvement after the game was over!
