Hark! Pray tell, be that the squeeking of cornered rats?  Ah, yes, they know soon cometh the end.

I can only assume that this metaphor (unhelpful that it is) relates to the entire Unionist population on this island.

If so, can this populus expect to be treated as such if/when unification comes about?

I would say the treatment of the Roman community in South Belfast may have damaged the reputation of unionists amongst foreingers on this island!

Did they stick them in the Coliseum to battle with Lions, Tigers, Bears and other Romans?
Time to take a more chill-pill approach to life.

Like the Italian Catholics before them? The Poles and Filipinos tend to use CCMS schools, live in nationalist area and marry into the Catholic community. Odds are those that stay will assimilate as the Italians did.

Dont necessarily agree with this...I know where I am from they are as likely to go to non-ccms schools such as integrated primary's etc and live in any area. I think they are more likely to live where they can afford and send their children somewhere where they are being catered for rather than make those kind of decisions based on religion.

I wonder, Polish & Lithuanian Catholics who make up a significant increase in the Catholic population moved to what they believed to the UK, so they may remain loyal to the country they believed they moved too, as oppose to those who moved to the Republic and consider themselves alligned with Ireland. I reckon (hopefully wrongly) than alot of the new Catholics are pro-British votes.

Are all the old traditional unionist schools (think Ulster Schools Cup e.g. the Royal Schools, Campbell, Sullivan) open to anyone, as long as they can afford it?
They are open to anyone and do not neccessarily consider themselves "unionist schools".

As for Sullivan and the Schools Cup they are not long acquainted every year ::)
