2. When a free is awarded. Players allowed to move 5 yards from a free as long as they are not shooting for goal. Any attempt by opposition to stand in front of him will allow the player 13 yards immediately. Retreating should be like in Rugby, immediate retreat.

That's a very good suggestion

One rule I would do away with is the handpassing the ball over the bar....  Apparently if the ref spots this, it's meant to be no score and a free out.
Get rid of this and allow a point to be scored by a handpass because:

1. - It is always happening and never penalised

2. - If that rule goes then Kevin McStay will have to stop mentioning in it in his commentary so he can pretend he knows what he is talking about

I too used to think there was no advantage rule but apparently there is.

Can anyone clarify this and post what the rulebook says.

I think I read somewhere that the ref will allow a player to continue on having been fouled if he's in a clear scoring situation.
My words not the official words.

From the guide book Fuzz:

2.2(iii) When a player is fouled immediately after he plays the ball away and a score results, it shall stand. Otherwise, the referee shall award a free kick from where the foul occurred or, if more advantageous, from where the ball lands or crosses the sideline.

...

4.36 When a team commits a technical foul, the referee may allow the play to continue if he considers it to be the advantage of the opposing team. Once he allows play to continue, he may not subsequently award a free for that foul. He shall apply any relevant disciplinary action.

A few things that should be enforced:

- standardise length of games as previously mentioned
- allow tackles on the keepers in both hurling and football, they get too much protection currently and if so much as shouldered then its a free out
- enforce the rule properly in hurling so that when a player or keeper lies on the ball a free is given and not a throw ball

I always understood it that you can't touch the goal keeper whe nhe is in the small square. but once he's out side that, he's the same as any other player, am I right?

Yes juice:

When he is within the small rectangle, the goalkeeper may not be charged but he may be challenged for possession of the ball, and his kick or pass may be blocked. Incidental contact with the goalkeeper while playing the ball is permitted.

was going to suggest something similiar to this,  this craic of player getting fouled thens hits it quick,  only for the ref to take it back cause he was a yard way from were it happened is really annoying!  the advantage is with the player fouled let him get on with it.  speed the game up too!!
