Mayo Peace Park
Garden of Remembrance
Castlebar
County Mayo
Ireland

This website is dedicated to honour the memory of all those from Mayo, who served and died in all wars worldwide and conflicts of the past century, with the Allied and Commonwealth Forces, a forgotten generation who were written out of local history until recent times. We remember those who served or died in all wars worldwide and it especially remembers all those Mayo born Irish Army soldiers who served and died on UN operations.

The President of Ireland Mrs Mary McAleese will perform the official opening of the Mayo Peace Park, Garden of Remembrance in Castlebar , County Mayo, at 2pm, on Tuesday the 7th of October 2008.

And why can't ye remember those Mayoites who died fighting for the Freedom of their own Country?
Especially those who rose in 1798 ?

It's called revisionism. This outrageous loada shite that galls me that we aren't allowed to commemorate the 1916 Rising now even if all those boyos had their way.

Other memorials to found in the town are the Eddie O'Malley (Irish Republican)  memorial on the Mall, the General George O'Malley statue (Army British Army), the De LaSalle Statue (Founder of the De LaSalle brothers who educated many of the male population of the town). We have the Linnenhall, which now acts as the town hall, General Humbert held a ball there to celebrate the great Franco-Irish victories & the establishment of the Irish Republic (1798 Connacht Republic), it also was the site of the Castlebar Linnen Industry the biggest in Ireland outside of Ulster, around the corner from New Antrim Street. We also have the National Museum of Country Life, the only National Museum outside of Dublin.
