I am considering buying an Irish Sky card so as to watch Irish tv (in particular GAA) in England. Setanta going bust was irritating as far as watching GAA is concerned and now being solely dependent on streams, which RTE are increasingly banjaxing, is frustrating.

I am thinking of using this service -;

Has anyone else used them or someone similar?

They are expensive I know but as my relatives in NI both already have Sky subscriptions I can't use any addresses to register the card and get it posted over.

Unless they're multiroom subscribers, Sky will normally be happy enough to have a second subscription at the same address.

but I think it's technically illegal to have a Sky Irish card at a house in the UK (When I say illegal, I mean against Sky's rules, as opposed to a lawbreaking offence)

I appreciate it's not illegal per se.

I've had a good look around the web and the crux of it is you need to have the card registered to an address in Ireland and unfortunantely I don't know anyone (well enough) that doesn't already have a Sky subscription, hence why I am considering this option.

I'll get the southern one as nothing (GAA wise) will be blocked

I got two new sky cards in the post last week, apparently it was some sort of update. I still have the old cards and I just checked them and they are still working. Yours foc if you want them.

Thanks, but you have to pair them up to the box, for them to work.

Thats only for Sky Sports, for basic channels like RTE and TV3 I think you`ll be ok. If you want to go ahead and get a box as well give Grimleys in Dundalk a ring. I reckon they would send you one over in the post. (042) 9354343

I believe you can get more than one per address if there are flats/apartments in the house.

So use the address:

Apartment 1A
followed by the rest of your relative's address

You can get the setting on-line for all the Southern channels. Then add them in to the "other channels" segment in the services section. We use it down here to get the ITV channels as they aren't on our platform. The setting are easily googled. Maybe this would work.

That only works for channels that are free to air, such as ITV, BBC. None of the Irish channels are free, you have to subscribe to Sky and get a viewing card.

Agreed Hound, you need the viewing card, but can you not add them on to the other chanels then?

Do freesat cards exist in Ireland anymore?

Is this a possible option?
